Not that I necessarily disagree that Hal Jordan's powers are ridiculous, but I just want to present a few details here.
1. Reversing magnetic poles does NOT negate magnetism.
2. Magneto's force fields have withstood several nuclear explosions AND more.
3. Because Magneto can manipulate the ENTIRE electromagnetic spectrum, he doesn't necessarily need metal (or even matter) to partake in combat.
4. Magneto can manipulate magnetism on an atomic level, which means he can pretty much pull metal out of thin air (not that there's much matter in the vacuum of space, but hey this is comic book science we're talking about).
Give Magneto a little more credit here. Because Hal is an intergalactic space hero with all sorts of interesting villains, his feats are naturally going to be a bit more fantastic than an earthbound hero. That doesn't mean that magneto's powers aren't just as versatile.
P.S. Magneto has also manipulated gravity, a dangerous ability in the depths of space. Yes, I know green lantern powers can contain black holes and other ridiculous things like that, but it goes to show there's more to magneto than refrigerator magnets.
P.P.S. Has Magneto EVER not come back after apparently dying? I mean, immortality should be listed as one of his powers. :3
