@Marksman: Been done, but you're definitely wrong there...consensus was definitely Lurtz

#5 Posted by Marksman (1264 posts) - 4 months, 19 hours ago - Show Bio

@Equonox:I say Azog.

Especially by book lore.

@Marksman: The books mention Azog briefly, and Lurtz doesn't exist in the books. Average Uruk-Hai > the best orcs. Lurtz gave Aragorn a run for his money and was vastly superior to him physically, and Aragorn was one of the greatest warriors in all of the LOTR (WAY better than Thorin). Lurtz <= Aragorn > Thorin > Azog

@Oscars94: for that I apologise (my first post)

What would you say to Lurtz and Gothmog vs Azog

IIRC, according to Tolkien lore, physically, dwarves are superior to men anyway, and Azog is technically an Uruk, although not n Uruk Hai.

So, I could argue that Thorin makes up for what he lacks in fighting skills, he makes up for in physical strength in the Thorin vs Aragorn debate.

Thorin > Azog > Aragorn. => Lurtz

@Mistry_Riddler: You're forgiven :D Yeah that could be a good fight. Any feats for Gothmog?

#11 Posted by Equonox (778 posts) - 4 months, 19 hours ago - Show Bio

@Marksman: Are you serious? I don't think there is a single Tolkien expert alive who would agree Thorin is anywhere NEAR Aragorn in fighting prowess, nor is Azog. Regardless of how strong Thorin was (much more than Aragorn? Doubtful), they are totally different levels.

#12 Posted by Marksman (1264 posts) - 4 months, 19 hours ago - Show Bio

@Equonox: I was referring to strength. Dwarves are naturally stronger than men, and Thorin is (or at least seemed to be) a very large dwarf.

@Marksman: in strength, i would actually say Lurtz = Azog > Thorin > Aragorn. Lurtz threw a big iron shield like a Frisbee with a LOT of force. Azog looked like he was in the same echelon of strength, tossing dwarves around n stuff. The reason I say Lurtz would beat him in a fight is because he seemed vastly more refined. He was faster, more precise, and more ferocious (not to mention he didn't cower away when he got his arm lopped off, while Azog was a total wuss about it). With standard gear, I think Lurtz's shield would give him a particular edge, as apparently a wooden shield is enough to deflect Azog's attacks which would make me think an iron shield would make him virtually impervious to Azog.

@Oscars94: I'll make a new battle thread with this fight

Lurtz with ease... Orcs can't fight well in the daylight where are uruks can they are also faster stronger braver and smarter they also feel no pain and will fight on regardless of wounds where as azog fled after loosing his hand.

Wth? Gothmog, as in, the king of balrogs Gothmog? Even if it's two month old, this is sheer craziness.

@oscars94: Oh, yes. I completely forgot about that. I was thinking of Gothmog, the king of balrogs, one who dueled ecthelion. Lol putting him in the battle here is..retarded. This makes sense, though.
