ares i dont believe has any magic immunities let alone Magic defenses or attacks to hurt Loki.
 
Ares can win if it was solely melee and even then Loki is himself a skilled melee fighter.

i know this sounds lame but ares is a god he can't be manipulated easily. gods can survive lots of harsh environments. since thor has survived lots. and ares is a power house like wonder woman. so he might just brake through lokis things he's probably shooting. and in close combat ares is a better fighter and will easily chop lokis head of. ares wins. deal with it. lol

Definitely Ares. Loki is overrated (especially because of the Avengers movie).

Ares has the magic to meet Loki but is also stronger, more durable, a far greater tactician, has better armor and waaaaaay more of a skilled fighter.

And since this is a battle with slaves/minions fighting, it would only fuel Ares making him stronger. And anybody who dies in battle would becomes Ares pawn because of his necromancy.

Ares physically, but Loki mentally (illusions).

I believe Loki can beat anyone with tricks. When written right his plans are working two years ahead.
