Lobo vs Guardians of the Galaxy

(all combatants are in character, current versions, DC characters are pre-Flashpoint)

I made a battle a while back where Lobo faced two of Marvel's Guardians: Groot and Rocket Raccoon. The odds where overwhelmingly in Lobo's favor until the Guardians received prep and a strategic battlefield advantage. So, that said, let's see how much the Main Man can handle.

Equipped w/ Assorted Guns and Blasters, Blade (Machete thing), Frag Grenades, Hook n Chain, Spazfrag 666, and pretty much anything else that's standard gear.

Rules:

• Lobo has knowledge of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy and their abilities.
• The Guardians are warned of an unidentified flying object approaching them 5 minutes prior and equip their Standard Gear.
• The Guardians's Ship inconveniently (or conveniently) is Out of Commission for the battle..
• Win by death, KO, or incapacitation.

Reasons?

The GOTG really don't have that "big gun" to take down a powerhouse like Lobo. Draw was incredibly powerful before Annihilation, but I think now Groot is actually their heavy hitter, which isn't enough.

@venomoustaco: @kcjr: well seeing as Groot has traded blows physically with Thanos (who smacked Drax, and Hulk around at the same time), i am in high confidence that Groot could match Lobo physically, but tbh my knowledge is limited to Agent Venom and Carol Danvers, but i have read some GoTG and i havent seen anything that shows me Lobo can take a majority over the stellar team work of the GoTG.

@jonny_anonymous: Oh, I thought he was referring to Drax, who slayed Thanos (arguably a god). Either way that doesn't matter. These are the current versions. Right now, the powerhouses are Groot and Captain Marvel.

Does GotG have standard gear?

Current Lobo doesn't have the feats to even be in the battle forum.

Pre 52 Lobo should win with that gear as long as he is fighting serious.

I said Rocket and Groot can take him in the other thread. The other characters should make this even more so.

Star-Lord for a second genius tactical brain besides Rocket.

Gamora, because she will own Lobo up close. She may be way under-powered physically, but that has never stopped her from taking on characters like classic Drax and Thanos.

Carol Danvers has some nice power levels to add here.

Drax and Agent Venom are the weakest links, and probably can't add much.

@tparks: Groot and Rocket had an advantage in the other thread with prep and a strategically beneficial battlefield.

Here, Lobo has the drop on the team.

I dunno, I think if you have Groot, Rocket, Gamora AND Carol together, blitzing, Lobo would have a hell of a time.

Not to mention tactical prowess of Star-Lord, and whatever Drax and Venom want to bring.

@venomoustaco: It doesn't change anything with the battlefield or prep. The Guardians never get much for prep time, and Groot is powerful enough now that he no longer requires to root, water, or absorb wood. Working on the fly is where the Guardians excel. Rocket's brain is capable of finding every possible positive outcome of any situation on the fly, so prep time is just a bonus for him. He comes up with genius strategies instantly.

• Peter Quill who has worked with everyone from Captain America to Reed Richards, and has a close personal relationship with Thanos, says Rocket Raccoon has the best tactical mind out of everyone he's ever met. Peter Quill is also a genius strategist, as he was the brains behind the Rebellion during the Annihilation Wave.

• Rocket with zero prep instantly comes up with a plan that stops Thanos in his tracks, and has his psychics put him down. He actually put a lot of fear into Thanos, which pretty much no one else in the Marvel Universe has done.

And here's Groot with no water, rooting, or wood absorbing. He's smaller then a small child's foot.

Here he is when he sees her village getting attacked. He instantly grows to this size.

So how can Lobo keep Groot down, when he can grow to that size, that fast? Even if Lobo chops Groot up, he can just have a piece of himself grow to this size again instantly.

@tparks: You make really good points. I wish someone would at least attempt to make an argument for Lobo aside from stating his name and nothing more.

One thing about the Thanos scan though... He is clearly stayed to lack his regular powers and lack his regenerative abilities. Lobo, although not on the same power level, definitely has a better healing factor, so the robo-suit cannon definitely won't be a problem (at least at that level). Also, this is a battle (sorry for stating the obvious), so any conveniently placed plot devices (like that suit) won't just be their unless otherwise specified.

Overall you make really good points. I just wish someone would offer a counter aside from Lobo wins. It would be a lot more entertaining.

@venomoustaco: I wasn't pointing out the Robo Suit as an offensive means, I was pointing that out as Rocket's tactical ability. Thanos, even while feral, would crush the Guardians. Rocket was able to come up with a positive situation by using the weapon and calculating the exact firepower to put Thanos into a permanent coma, that would afterwards be held by the team psychics. Thanos doesn't fear death, he would welcome death so he could return to lady Death. Rocket knew this and used it to his advantage. Rocket was threatening Thanos with eternal life. He came up with this plan instantly, and he put enough fear into Thanos that he agreed to work with the Guardians of the Galaxy without a single shot needing to be fired.

Any idea on how they would deal with Lobo with no prep whatsoever?

@venomoustaco: Probably by getting Groot into position to beat him down. Groot has put some good licks on Thanos and Hulk before, so I think he is their best bet of putting Lobo down.

Rocket has weapons that can keep Lobo busy. His latest gun in Captain Marvel #2 was a one-shot for a Badoon ship, and he has other guns big enough to at least cause Lobo to have to respect the threat from them, even if they don't put him down.

Gamora might be able to use nerve strikes on Lobo too. She has had them work against very durable characters like Thanos, Thing, and She-Hulk before.

Current Star-Lord hasn't shown anything from his element gun yet, but assuming it's the same as his classic, it has no limits on how much power output it has. He can shoot an entire ocean's worth of water at Lobo, cause earthquakes, shoot Hurricanes at him, or send fire as hot as he wills it at Lobo. Star-Lord has shown basically zero feats with his element gun since he got it back though, so I can't say for sure that he is still capable of doing this (he probably isn't).

Drax and Agent Venom probably don't have enough power levels to do much to really hurt Lobo.

@tparks: Nice assessment, although I'm curious as to how nerve strikes might affect the Main Man. His healing factor is unmatched, but I have no idea on how it would respond to nerve strikes.

I'm not sure. It worked against She-Hulk, who has a healing factor. I'm pretty sure her healing factor is lower then Lobo's, but it did work. It would probably hurt him and incapacitate him for a short while, but might not KO him.

@tparks: Well Lobo's healing factor is arguably one the best (if not THE best) healing factors in comics. Although, nerve strikes with that much force could conceivably stun Lobo.

Guardians win even without Angela.

I'm pretty sure nerve strikes work on everything, you've just got to know where the nerves are, how hard to hit them and how many times you need to do it for it to take affect.

Lobo has the best HF around and tanks hits and blows from incredibly powerful people. The Main Man FTW but the Gardians wll not make it easy as Groot,Danvers and Agent Venom are gonna their best chance at winning.
