It'll take just one bomb, and without prior knowledge she wouldn't even see it coming, now with knowledge I'd give it to her.

Toph wouldn't see Kankuro's puppets attack from the air (nor would she expect it) so she'd go down likely fairly quickly. He's also faster and more mobile..

@thatguywithheadphones: By the time kankuro even tries to move his puppet he will already be encased in earth. Toph can feel even the slightest vibrations in the earth. If you move even a finger toph will know.

@thatguywithheadphones: By the time kankuro even tries to move his puppet he will already be encased in earth. Toph can feel even the slightest vibrations in the earth. If you move even a finger toph will know.

He can flick a finger faster then she she can move a limb. Also Encasing people in earth isn't Toph's forte, she's only done that twice against people she knew were do agile and hell she had trouble catching Azula. She's a blunt fighter who like shooting rocks at people.

@thatguywithheadphones: Thanks. That poison gas will take Toph down quick. She won't even expect that due to having never been attacked with it. Kankuro won't be too surprised by an earth manipulator.

Look at the OP. Toph as soon as the battle start will already have a rock stabbing through kankuro's chest.

@deathhero61: Or Kankuro just shoots her with a bomb. I'm betting on Kankuro, because a flick of a finger is faster then the movement of limb. Kankuro can also dodge, earthbending has a habit of telegraphing it self before it hits.

Don't forget that Kankuro keeps his team sealed inside of summoning scrolls that he usually places onto the ground for battle preparation, so don't cut Toph too short this time around.

Kankuro is more ruthless to begin with. I still say him. Its not as if slower people haven't evaded her. Like Ty Lee. A genin would make the acrobatics she does look like a retarded monkey with a broken leg.

This is a nice match up, but there is a major flaw.

Morals off toph?
What would that mean?
We have never seen her "Morals off" or bloodlusted(we have seen quite few chars in the Last airbender verse in that condition), so we don't exactly know she'll act in those conditions....

It would not matter for most chars, but it does for Toph.

Would she rage and start launching around boulders or would she go for a more effective earth casing?

Overall, i'll give a slight majority to Kankuro because of darts/poison, given that the puppets fly and toph has had problem with gas-based attacks before.

Toph. can't confuse her on which dummie is you or an decoy.

attacking her would be nearly impossible as her defense is the best

and her attacks are precise. she can throw boulders extremely fast but can manipulate the ground around you.

I understand where you're coming from, and noted for the idea of Toph never really showing any kind of 'out of character' feats in the series. Suppose that this time around she'd be on absolute guard and assault mode. In the show she'd sense the whereabouts of someone and wait for them to begin the attack. I'd imagine that a morals off Toph would begin an earthbending onslaught immediately when she would figure out her opponents placement.

As I stated a few comments up, Kankuro usually places his summoning scrolls on the ground and releases them through his release hand sign. If not that option, he keeps them on his back and reaches for them, either way he is moving his body in some fashion, enough for Toph to sense him. She is overly precise with this seismic ability, a notable feat is when she felt ants moving about around her. That's a surface feat though, she's also been able to sense underground tunnels/caverns that were covered by a large body of water and what not. So whether a minimized opponent or an average sized one, she'd feel it.

A morals off Toph would definitely be a suitable match for Kankuro, but half of it is by assumption. We've seen what she can do and what she is capable of, just remove her in character 'block' that was shown in the series and you probably get a fair idea of what she would be like in battle.

Now Kankuros' puppet style is based off deception, speed and poison. Two out of three might prove difficult for Toph to counter if she was not able to get over him in the beginning of the face off. The cricket/cackling noises his puppets make would probably throw her off completely because she wouldn't know where to strike and her senses would be chaotic trying to focus on these sounds. Firstly though, she would know where Kankuro is. Unfortunately, the aerial combat of his puppets would be her downfall. If he managed to encase her within Black Ant, she could possibly release herself through the metal clutches along the puppets frame. Then again, while he was preparing for his impaling technique via Crow and Black Ant, she could sink the puppet underground and release herself.

I see her main reasons for losing is:

  • Poison grenades
  • Barrages of kunai
  • Poison tipped senbon

Overall

This match still continues to go either way for me. Thanks for your input though, I appreciate it.

Are people forgetting that Kankuro exists in a world where superspeed is a standard power? The characters all move as blurs whenever we see them in motion without cinematic time.

So Kankuro will almost certainly get the first move. Not to mention his puppets move through the air and there's no reason to suspect her seismic sense would work through strings made of an intangible energy like chakra. Toph wouldn't be able to effectively fight them.

Nice post.

The whole problem for toph are projectiles and poison, she simply cannot fight them.

And Kankuro should be fast enough to avoid and/or tank what Toph does for long enough to get a killing blow.
