well a user with not even 1% power of the strongest kameha user once blew up the moon with it to prevent the giant monkey from destroying everything.its mostly used in ways to make sure you disinerate your opponent or blow half their bodies off and always thrown to the air or straight ahead both ways guide the blast to the stars since hitting the planet you inhabit would cause it to blow up and that could have repercussions.@Telcalipoca said:

but somehow blowing up the moon had none

Please forgive me or mentioning, that that should remain nameless aka Dragonball GT. But Goku's kamehameha in his base form was able to bust open a demension. i'll find the vid to back up my statement though. Found it! LOL!!
