who wins, who is more skilled, who is more intelligent?
James Bond (Skyfall) vs. Ethan Hunt (Ghost Protocol)
@thanatic: Hunt would mop the floor with Bond.
Hunt Stomps, better tech, more skill, faster combat and travel speed, more connections, smarter than Daniel Craig Bond by at least 10 levels, and he overall was the better spy.
Hunt he has better tech then thus version of bond.
@thanatic: Hunt would mop the floor with Bond.
Going with James Bond.
Hunt. They're both skilled but Ethan seemed more intelligent than Bond who's plan was extremely dumb 'hey lets go to my abandoned old country house in the middle of no where, with my old boss and old man mentor which will somehow give me an advantage over a guy who's hell bent on killing my boss and who's plans have been flawless so far.'
Plus i just feel Hunt is better h2h.
Bond takes this.
Stronger, faster, better fighter, more durable and the better shooter.
@leo-343: Hardly a technical aspect? That's erroneous.
Here, I clarified in the James Bond (Craig) vs Black Widow (MCU) CAV that I won (me as Bond) why Bond is a technical fighter. Bond can draw his gun faster than trained agents can; and he is durable to the point where he took a sniper shot and fell a distance with his body intact that would realistically rip his stomach open.
Ethan Hunt. As skilled martially, except Bond as more leathality to a degree (Hunt's more of fight to incap type of guy), he faster(outran an explosion), better perceptions, better stamina( ran miles through taiwan without breaking stride) better marksmen, better tech, smarter, better durability/pain tolerance, and is possibly stronger at least in leg strength.
And that's going off his MI-MI 3 feats. Hunt from MI-4 wins every round.

1. Bond is more skilled and demonstrated a more lethal fighting style
2. Bond also out-ran an explosion in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace
3. Bond chased a man during the crane sequence and chased an agent at the beginning of Quantum of Solace, for a lengthy distance
4. How is Hunt a better marksman?
5. There is no way he is more durable than Bond
Hunt is a far more technical fighter. Bond, point of fact is a bit of a brawler. Hunt's a classier grade of fighter. Just look at his H2H feats in MI 3&4? Even some of the stuff in 2 was pretty mighty. He's also in his prime despite his supposed age and judging by his acrobatic feats? In a lot better shape. Bond as of Skyfall, is kind of an old soldier. It's been established that he has to power through now due to his age/lifestyle. So Hunt does have the edge on stamina and reflexes. He's never lost that 'half yard' and Bond has. Despite I will admit some mighty damage soak feats by Bond in the recent movies. Even without that. Hunt does like everybody has said, possess better tech. He's just a far slicker operator in general than Bond. I honestly think that Ethan hunt gets sold short in the 'movie spy' list. Guy is a beast.
It would be a good movie if they met, but i put my money on hunt but as i could see it it could go either way and both are very skilled but i felt that bond was jobbing in skyfall. for example he got a mission to assassinate a guy but he looked at him the started to fight hem even tough he had a gun an the guy even succeeded killing his target. But I say 60-40 that Hunt will win cuz he showed great skill in h2h, running, pain tolerance but he was getting the job done faster.
@frozen: nice feats to back up your statements. I am totally convinced.
Jack Reacher
Man, he sucks.
@frozen: nice feats to back up your statements. I am totally convinced.
Cool. I also like the feats you cited.
Read the CAV I cited. Feats are there.
@hit_monkey: Read the CAV I cited. Bond is not a brawler; that has no basis to it.
He fights brutal but effective.
@monsterstomp Hed Knock your favorite character out (Bond)
my favourite character is sam fisher yo.
@frozen: Sorry for the late reply
1. Bond is more skilled and demonstrated a more lethal fighting style
Read my post. I already noted that Bond has applied more lethality in his fighting style, but Hunt as shown more versatility and knowledge of various fighting styles. According to the mission impossible wiki Hunt knows akido, judu, karate, and caeporia, which he's demonstrated more than several times throughout the MI series. For instance, in his fight with Sean (former MI agent), and handily beating him.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpLx9qijO9g
1:15-
he demonstrated proficiency in both akido and capeoria, applying powerful grabs, kicks and punches in combination
and again he displayed proficiency in in judo, akido and karate in his fight with armed body and guard and prison inmates
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5s44A8uIEQ
handily K.Oing inmates with single barehanded blows, throws and K.Oing armored guards with several strikes to the face and sternum.
All those fights are witness to Ethan's fighting skill being at least even to Bond's and more versatile when it comes to fighting style
2. Bond also out-ran an explosion in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace
You mind posting or linking those scenes because Hunt's outran the explosion and missile seconds away and target directly at him
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l4qdf_1nGM
Plus he's outran water hehe in the first MI and jumped across 15 ft + bridge (shown above)
So I don't think Bond can match Hunt in the running/speed category, something that's been Hunt's trademark skill throughout the MI series.
3. Bond chased a man during the crane sequence and chased an agent at the beginning of Quantum of Solace, for a lengthy distance
You're going to have to post that to because I don't believe either matches Hunt's feat of running throughout Taiwan, without break, in search for his wife or his running/on foot travel feats in Ghost Protocol: nearly out running explosions, on foot chase throughout a Sandstorm non-stop, etc etc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da4N5c4UPHA&list=WL&index=275
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WregEzwBbM
You're going to have to show me something that top those
4. How is Hunt a better marksman?
I would say he is given the feat I showed from MI-3 in which he was capable of shooting down incoming jet from 100's of meters: in moments of having his back and head smashed into a car from the impact/residual wave of an explosion, and slightly disoriented.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l4qdf_1nGM
It worth noting that the impact was at the back of his head where the occipital/visual lobe of the brain rest, so it's pretty impressive
That and his bullet timing, and markmenship feats here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCRdTWGdngU&list=PLDA24E7A6E1307B26&index=8
1:45- nailing 2 armed assailants with 2 shots, with a small handgun, while sliding rapidly on his back down a skyscraper, which he had just fell over 20 feet onto nearly breaking glass.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns5RNwaEOTs
1:00-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST0q4CibS1o
2:47-3:16. Kicking a firearm into his hand, dodging a bullet fired from behind, and turning on Sean for the kill shots all within seconds (MI-2). In the next Hunt accurately takes out a whole room with several placed around him in succession, not missing shot( MI-3)
great feats of his shooting skill.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8snL5UyZOk
2:55-3:02 hitting the windshield nearly head) of Sean's bike while firing from behind his back, while driving a motorcycle at high speeds with his Beretta 92FS 9mm.
With that I'd say Hunt's probably a better marksman, at least based on feats and comparison.
5. There is no way he is more durable than Bond
Look above; I just showed you Hunt taking impact from near by explosions in MI-3, which was strong enough to explode windows with his collide, yet he remained consciousness
(he did so in the MI-1 train scene here):
hits to the face from large rocks (MI-2 against Sean), taking punches to the gut, face, and tanking falls from great heights with out noticeable injury ( he jumped out of 2 story hospital, onto moving truck and landed on his back without injury).
So yes, I do see Hunt as being the more durable.
6. Something you didn't acknowledge or address is that Hunt as the greater physicals (strength, agility, stamina) All which are proven with "rock climbing feat" in MI-2: where he supported his entire (160lb) body with mostly his upperbody strength and no wire, stopped Sean's knife from entering his eye after the latter's body was thrown on top of Hunt, his copious amount of acrobatic/stunts; puts Hunt solidly ahead in the physical department.
So since Ethan is as skilled if not more skilled, more versatile martially, more acrobatic, smarter (something you failed to address), more tactical, definitively stronger, greater reactions/speed, better stamina, better overall physicals, and has consistently shown to be more durable; I don't see how you think Bond is wins this fight.
@allstarsuperman: ;) Thanks, I try. Last time I saw a 2 year old thread in which Ethan came last in a 3 way with Bond, Jason Bourne and New Bourne. I just didn't get it, but it's cool to see another thread involving movie Spys, so I can discuss it this time and back Hunt.
@okayalright_44: would you say Ethan can beat Jason Bourne?
Ethan was more intelligent, Bond was more witty now in terms of more skilled their pretty close but I think Bond has the experience edge while Ethan was more versatile and was a better multitasker.
Ethan wins overall.
Hunt. Craig's bond lacks all the finesse of previous bonds and often gets beaten up by a singular no name thug. He is like a dumbed down version of Jason Bourne. Hunt is closer to the classic one man army Bond's.
As a side note I like Daniel Ctaig but his Bond is the worst. He always gets hurt, he has no gadgets, and his cars don't even have bullet proof glass... Are you kidding me??? Even congressmen have bulletproof glass in their cars.
@thanatic: I think Hunt vs Bourne would indeed be a better match up. The way I see it Hunt and Bourne have comparable physicals (speed/strength/striking power/stamina), comparable fighting skill, but I do believe Jason is martially more martially tactical/versatile (he turns anything into a weapon),has slightly more lethality, as well better memory/cognitive ability (copying fighting style, memorizing the best methods to use) and applies it better mid- combat.
If Hunt and Bourne were to meet 1v1 H2H(random encounter), I'd side with Bourne for a solid majority. But given that Hunt has better gadgetry, technological know-how, versatility and intelligence as well as comparable, if not better, marksmanship; I side with Ethan if that fight was to be a weapons vs weapons (random encounter) bout.
If it were H2H, and Guns allowed all out then I would personally side with Hunt, but given Bourne's capabilities; I could see a stalemate.
If any prep was allowed then Hunt would stomp Bond and Bourne.
I belive both are quite good match for each other but Bond's strength lies in the fact that he works according to a master plan supported by gadgets and manpower. Hunt performs in a more crude way. His greatest asset is that he gambles with his life and is great at improvisation and adaptation.
Bond maybe better trained and seems to be physically stronger but Hunt gets the job done by hook or by crook. Hunt mostly thinks out of the box so I give hunt a win 6/10 times
@deltahuman: I think you mean the opposite. Bond literally goes in, beats or shoots everyone against his way whereas Ethan Hunt actually plans ahead and creates scenarios where he's in full control
@okayalright_44: The truth is stranger than you think. Bourne may probably has better Battle IQ but Ethan's got better IQ overall and actually knows more martial arts than Bourne. Bourne only has 10 martial art styles under his belt whereas Ethan has 13.
Ethan's intelligence literally has him deducing conspiracies and mysteries with few limited clues whereas Bourne needed a ton of clues to solve his past and every mystery presented in the films
That post was 6 years ago. My perception has completely changed now. Hunt demolishes Bond. He is a legit low tier superhuman with insane durability, pain tolerance, planning and skills. No version of Bond can beat Ethan Hunt. Hunt is the best most accomplished spy in live action by a mile
