The Thing and Ironman's strengths are pretty even.

Ironman is slightly harder to hurt but Thing has greater stamina.

Thing is a much better fighter (close fighting) but Ironman comes in to his own at range.

Overall, the range of Ironman's powers and their power level would mean that he defeats the Thing but it would be a hard battle on both combatants as the Think is highly resourceful and creative.

Iron man is too smart to do that. He didn't do that when fighting the hulk so he's not going to do that fighting the thing.

Iron Man, he has projectiles and beams and crap and can fly. He'd have a better chance with the HulkBuster suit, or you could call it a Thing Buster, but that sounds painful.

This would be a lame fight. If Iron Man was looking to just kill the Thing he would not take a step on the ground. He would just shoot stuff at the thing till he was too tired to fight anymore.

Ironman he is stronger
Unless we are using some PIS weak version with crap armor then Ironman is many times faster, the speed of a thought
He can fly up just blast The Thing from orbit
and in his old ass armor he has solo'ed all the Fan 4, Reed, Torch, Sue, Thing all defeated

Iron man is not stronger than the Thing in any situation

Except, when, you know, he is.

Like when he was demolishing opponents that the entire F4 were struggling with, on his own. In Iron Man vol. 4, Execute Program: Part VI.

He has beat down Hulk, The Thing has only won against the Gray Mr Fixit Hulk
this is the weakest Hulk showing and even then The Thing was struggling to put him down

Extremis Ironman would own the Fan 4 so bad in a random encounter
