With Prep or with either the IG or HOTU I can see Thanos winning here, without either of those items or no prep then Imperiex curbstomps.
Is this a joke? Even though i'm a fan of Thanos. Imperiex the personification of the Big Bang itself wins this one easily.
@inconvenient_truth: I think Thanos needs more than one day of prep. nabby five days.
@godtriggerhulk: That's a little to much energy for him to handle don't you think?
Imperiex is the dumbed down version of Galactus in the DCU. Base Thanos can knock Galactus on his ass. If this is Avatar of Death Thanos, Imperiex can do jack nothing except pray it doesn't hurt.
Base Thanos can't knock down Galactus.

Yes he can. he did it already. when they were fought HUNGER.

I'm not sure what you mean by "dumbed down." If you mean less complex as a character then I readily agree with you. If you mean less powerful then you are mistaken. Imperiex hollows out entire galaxies. He would readily defeat a standard powered Galactus. Thanos doesn't stand a chance.
Agreed. there is a HUGE difference. but dude said "knock down"not damage
@onemoreposter: And a Fully Fed Galactus can destroy the universe, or the Multiverse with his Ultimate Nullifier. Imperiex is as cheap a copy of a character that you can make. And he isn't as powerful as Galactus.
@reikai: Neither is Thanos. He was wobbly when Odin was blasting him.

Thanos has - in the process damaging his helmet and enraging Galactus (who proceeds to blast Thanos down). If we're talking about the Secret Wars interpretation that Thor & friends couldn't touch I would agree with that sentiment - but Galactus' level of power does fluctuate quite a bit to allow for weaker characters to strike him when he isn't expecting to be attacked over.

This seems a little PIS-ish. In the same issue a couple pages later Galactus even says he has to exert himself to pierce Thanos's force fields. I mean, how strong are Thanos's shields? They can really stand up to Galactus? Does Thanos have any other feats like this? I mean a fed Galactus went toe-to-toe with Tyrant and a starved Galactus in Annihilation blew away 3 star systems. Seems like Thanos was being played up in his series the same way Spider-Man gets played up in his.
Thanos, iirc, himself said he probably did little more than anger Galactus. Galactus is subject to inertia. I mean, my friend Ryan pushed me and I moved, and he's just a kid.
@hunter_zolomon: There was the Silver Surfer Green Lantern crossover, where Thanos absorbed enough power from Oa to affect reality.
@godtriggerhulk: ...but Kyle drained it.

Yes, thanos shields are that strong. they were able to withstand attacks from Champion when he had the power gem. In that same fight Champion destroyed a planet. His shields also took blows from a blood lusted Thor who also had the power gem. During THanos fight with Odin, his shields took blast from Odin unfazed for a time. All he did was blast Galactus back. If a 10 yr old runs into you they can move you back. and galactus got through his shields. he just said those are the strongest force fields he encountered
@pooty: Thanks for the info. I had no idea Thanos's shields were that strong.
@uberhikari: No problem my friend. here are some scans:

Avatar of Death Thanos = Abstract Level = You're Screwed
Both of these are true statements.
@xlab3000: Nice thread..But I still have to give to Thanos. He has more experience fighting beings at Imperiex's caliber..

how does that even come into play, why don't you explain how he wins....experience fight and LOSING to beings at Imperiex's caliber doesn't give wins
Because he knows what to do with these guys. He has a vast knowledge of Cosmic entities. I see this as a fight between Batman and Supe's except that Thanos is always ready for almost everything..Plus his Death's Avatar. Imperiex has no means of killing him Thanos may using Death's arcane.

absolutely none of that proves why thanos wins when he already got stomped by Galactus and trashed by Odin
This is ridiculous, Imperiex wins hands down 10/10. Thanos didn't defeat Galactus, he didn't defeat Odin and he's not going to win this. If almost winning were the equivalant to a victory then Batman can defeat Thanos because he almost killed Darkseid and Green Arrow can defeat Thanos because he actually punched ZH Parallax.. Come on guys, this is worse than Batman, Hulk, Wolverine and Storm "what if they..." Victories.
Avatar of Death Thanos = Abstract Level = You're Screwed
Both of these are true statements.
Sorry but how exactly is that true.
Avatar of Death, is a labelled Thanos has been attributed forever, he was addressed as avatar of Death way back in Avengers : The Final Threat, which is the second story arc for Thanos to appear in.
Thanos has never been an abstract level being... thats just as flat out untrue as it gets.
And Imperiex was defeated by Superman. Thanos has huge advantage compared to Imperiex. He can't be killed and the fact that the Universe wants Imperiex destroyed. One cracked of his armor is all it takes.
I love the ABC logic of this thread. :D
ikr
And Imperiex was defeated by Superman.
Why even try?
@killemall: Erm, I think you just misworded, but Thanos was clearly abstract level with the IG or HOTU. I'm guessing you meant he's not abstract level without sufficient prep and amping.
Galactus stands no chance. Only the Big Bang was strong enough to destroy Imperiex. I think a few thousand galaxies worth of energy can vaporize Galactus, maybe even less. I cannot see many billions of Galaxies of power not ending Galactus, but this same number would make Imperiex laugh. Thanos cannot defeat Galactus. Galactus cannot defeat Imperiex. So, Imperiex wins to me.

Pretty much yes.
My disagreement is that as an Avatar of Death, Thanos (without hax item involved) isnt anywhere close to abstract level. In fact, the label Avatar of Death doesnt change his power level.
@godtriggerhulk: So the energy from planet Oa is the same as the one from the Big Bang?
Thanos regarded himself as a God of Death for many years. He did not actually become Death's Avatar until after Annihilation, going into Thanos Imperative. At which point it was impossible to kill or destroy him. His power is linked to that of Death and the greater the amount of death is in the universe, the more powerful he is.
In the Cancer-verse where Death was not present, making its inhabitants immortal, Thanos was still capable of delivering Permanent Death upon them, to beings who were stated as being four times more durable than their 616 counterparts due to the over abundance of life in their universe.
Also, do note that Thanos hasn't just faced with people of Imperiex level, but above that. Imperiex is weaker than Galactus. Tyrant is like 1/2 Galactus. Thanos can tank shots from both of them. Including The Omega, whom is stated as having power Above Galactus.
