So the ring auotmaticly protects its weilder from any attack?

not "attack" as you mean it, but it would sense any temperature change as being the environment and adjust to compensate... the rings all have an AI built in, so they are amazingly smart when it comes to stuff like this.

How did Slade beat Kyle if the GL's are so badass? I mean he broke Kyle's fingers I know, but how'd he get close enough to do it? And if he can get that close, couldn't Iceman?

Energy abosorbs couldn't cause a GL could just use the surroundings to defeat them. I don't think Superman like characters can too except for Superman.
the main problem with Green Lanterns, or any power ring users, is that they are pretty much in a class of their own...
they can outclass a lot of people, even so far as being able to defeat Superman with ease...
but against someone like Dr Light, who is basically a joke against any other DCU hero... Dr Light can easily kick the crap out of any Green Lantern with ease...

Superman Prime took out a lot of GLs(im not sure on the number though), and people that can Absorb massive amounts of energy like the silver surfer and photon would be able to drain the ring of its power.
Nope I think Iceman would win because he can turn the air into ice. Cool huh? He can create ice out of green lantern's body and destory him. Green Lantern is out.
Its to easy though that ring has to much power.icemaqn i would put him up against alot of people to win but his powers dont go to that of green lanterns ring.
If air can get through his shield, he's screwed. You can go on and on about the great powers of GL, but even by comic standards, realistically GL would lose. Ice Man is pretty damn near indestructible. GL could smash him, then he'd eventually let his guard down, only to inhale air and have Bobby materialize inside him, killing him instantly. Not a direct attack, and if GL wants to breathe..well, there you go.

I know you're the GL guy but I've got to disagree. I can think of at least two plausible reasons for it.
Kyle didn't have a shield up. The GLs usually have shields (or their autoshields protect them) but there have been instances where they just don't show up and GLs get hurt. I wouldn't call that "bad" writing, just writing that makes it possible for a fight to take place at all. It's not using the character (Kyle) to his full potential or ability, but that rarely happens anyway because if it did, things wouldn't be as fun.
The same way DS did the battle of wills thing in the first place. He broke his hand while holding it (the ring hand) so maybe while holding his hand, he exerted some of his own will and either bypassed the ring that way, or used its own power to break Kyle's fingers. After he broke his fingers and Kyle realized what he was up to (fighting for control) they struggled for a bit, but if the initial hand break happened before Kyle was actually resisting, then DS could have done what I mentioned.
Both of these requires some assumptions, but I don't think you need to take huge leaps of logic. I prefer trying to find ways that things could actually happen before calling junk bad writing. It might be, but I like my way better.
i could see it being the shields not being up, depending on what happened previously in the comic. it could be that Kyle didn't know of the danger or rather it happened to fast for him to react.

Its the Visable spectrum Ultra violet being the most intese. on a realated note there was also a big story line in malibu comics about a power based off the spectrum i remember it from that as well.

Dormath's got a point Cannonball. And besides, sunlight never stops GL in the comics. And even if it did, GL's powers wouldn't be destroyed, they just wouldn't work against the sunlight.
