Haven't you noticed that the curse works in 3 ways? You have to watch ALL of the movies and series to understand. But anyway, The entire family is the one that haunts; The Son, the Mother and the Father. The Son lures along with the cat, the father possesses, and the mother is the one that actually executes the killing. When she does, the Father again tortures the souls in the place of Kayako's death.... In Limbo. <---- Her reality or hell. That's right, the Grudge is also a multi-dimensional reality warper ONLY towards the people that she's curse. And she doesn't place a curse on them by being at the location, the victim places the curse on themselves by being anywhere present by the rage of the Kayako. And she travels via her victims that already souls' has encountered that presence. Where ever the victim goes, that curse is with them. In "Black Ghost / White Ghost", she is in Japan while also terrorizing America, thanks to Sarah Michelle's sister. The victim experience reality altering effects and witnesses won't even notice it. In "Ju-On 2", she placed a girl in the past after trying to escape from the house, the girl lived another 10 years living a good life until she gets to the same time frame when she 1st encountered the Grudge from the future. She then realizes that she been in the house for that whole time for 10 years unable to escape. The Grudge created an entire make shift reality for her. People that already encountered the Grudge are already dead from the get go so in order for the Ghost Busters to "trap" Kayako, they would 1st have to be present under her rage which by then already the curse is already activated. So after they do encountered her and fire those plasma cannons of their's and then use the Limbo Dimension trap to trap her in, they would go home and sleep only to realize that she is still there. The boy will lure them as always, the father will possess one of them and have him murder and then kill himself, and Kayako will suck them up into her own Limbo.
There's really no escape from the Grudge.
Kayako's own sister (a Priestess) tried to expel her only to be killed by the possessee of the husband.
Also, Kayako and her family doesn't just tear up your soul, they can physically destroy you as well. Grudge 1; She ripped the house's keepers jaw off. Used her spirit to lure the Joster the Mighty and kill him, Grudge 2, physically pulls a girl into a mirror (when in 1 another was pulled into a bed), Grudge 3; broke a little boy to pieces when caught on camera, Black Ghost White Ghost, smashes a guy's head through a wall.
Oh, and when watching the Ju-On series and Black Ghost / White Ghost, the movie plays from end to beginning in chapters, so watching them at 1st can get really confusing until you take a 2nd and 3rd look at it.
