For me Hank Pym just symbolizes a true hero. One who has his faults but has tried everything he can think of to redeem himself, who messes things up now and again but always tries to make-up for it. Sure, you can all shout Cap, Iron Man or Thor, all larger than life characters who yes the Avengers would be quite bad without but ultimately are kind of replaceable whereas there is just one Hank Pym, just one who is creative, intelligent, flawed but ultimately what we all are. A good man who has done bad things, but always tries to make up for them. Yes, he's too proud at some moments, and full of self-doubt at others, but he can always pull through them to save the day. Yes, Reed is smarter but Hank doesn't have that feel of superiority most of the time, he's the approachable professor/teacher or that uncle who you thought was the smartest man in the world and taught you everything your teachers did but in a fun and interesting way whereas Reed is that A-hole of a teacher who thinks he's better than everyone. Even Tony can do nothing without the right equipment.
Movie I'd say Stark, his genius is what will ultimately save the Avengers and the way he is in the films now, is definitely the funniest and possibly the most liked.
