Who is the better writer Geoff Johns who writes Justice League, Green Lantern, Aguaman and who also produce Blackest Night and Flashpoint or Morrison who wrote Final Crisis?

I don't think this is the kind of vs. the Battle Forums are for. But anyway...

I like Johns better, overall. He's not perfect. Blackest Night fell kind of flat for me, I really hate Zoom, and I still don't get how "will power" is an emotion, but overall I think he's done good work. You can tell he loves the characters and the DC Universe.

Morrison has a tendency to write a lot of pseudo-poetry (best word I can think of right now). He throws out impressive phrases strung together to sound evocative, but when you actually try to figure out what he's saying, it doesn't mean anything. Of course, this kind of writing encourages people to just make up their own meaning for whatever he's trying to say, which a lot of his fans do. He's not bad at what he does, I just view it as often being a kind of literary style over substance.

One thing that I felt with him regarding 7 Soldiers and Final Crisis, is that he really has his own idea of how things "should" be regarding DCs characters (especially the New Gods, obviously), and just runs off and does whatever he feels like. Johns has expanded a lot on the mythos of GL and played around with Flash and stuff, but he feels more like he respects the old material as well and doesn't try to clash too harshly, just put a different spin or interpretation on what's gone before.

i'm gonna get a lot of hate for this, but Geoff by far, i rather read his work than the intricate "Inception"-like stuff Morrison comes up with

Johns tries to relive the Silver Age, Superfriends era far too much. Morrison tries to pave new ground. While both are entertaining, the fact that Morrison tries something new makes him better, in my opinion.

Morrison actually uses the silver age to pave new ground,he unites the goofiness and the seriousness acknowledging everything about a franchise.Johns on the other hand has a pick and choose policy.

Meltzer was Sue Dibny, as far as I know. Did he also write the story that killed Ralph Dibny?

I was mostly bored to tears with the GL mythos prior to Johns despite having read all the stories from 1993 to 2002 or so, therefore I can't bring myself to complain about Geoff giving us better stories in the first 2-3 years of his run than we ever got in an entire decade that came earlier. Dozens upon dozens of retcons be damned.

Agreed. Johns has done many condemnable things, but I can forgive most of his GL-related transgressions since the stories were entertaining.

Agreed about the waulity of stories dropping in quality after Agent Orange, but WotGLs was good for the most part (even though I definitely had issues with the last two installments), and I never bothered with more than 3-4 issues of Brightest Day. Blackest Night had nice buildup but not a rewarding payoff. The whole thing with the Entity, Nekron and the White Lantern Corps was just off.

I think that even at his personal worst his stories can be readable. I never finished reading a Johns issue thinking, "that was terrible." He surely has his weak points but I have enjoyed a large portion from his overall body of work that I have read. Likewise with Grant, albeit for different reasons.

True dat. Very true, GL without Geoff wouldn't be anything like what it is and it wouldn't be nearly as "good" as it is not, or for lack of a better term: Popular.
