I'd give it to Galactus - Phoenix Force might have more destructive power, but it's defense is somewhat limited, whereas Galactus is comparatively limited in what he can destroy, but is pretty much indestructible.

Yes, he survived but why did he???....glad you asked because the phoenix force saved nhis sorry butt!
Phoenix force obviously wins because it can not die!!! Also it has unlimited energy!!! But it can be temporarily put down, and I think that can count as a win??? Anyway Galactus is a good match for the phoenix with an avatar, but not to the full force itself.
The Phoenix Force has unlimited powers and unlimited energy, while Galactus at full power is a very formidable opponent, Galactus will eventually tire and his full power will be depleted.

Any time I have heard a debate where Galactus lost and people reference different situations their cop out excuse was that he wasn't at full power. Well if he isn't at full power that often wouldn't that make him more vulnerable...in essence weaker...

Yes but this is galactus full power not just Galactus there is a difference. I know Galactus gets owned by the infinite phoenix force, but Galactus is generally never using his power in the way you would expect somebody so smart to use their power.
Galactus' power is always depleted because he is just standing their alowing himself to get hit, whereas against beings like Tyrant their is wrestling, boxing, multi-galaxy busters, dodging. Where is any of that speed against Phoenix, where is any of that passion against Phoenix. Galactus is always depicted as cocky when against Phoenix and gets punished for it. Pure BS, galactus should know who phoenix is, and if he was worried about Tyrant, he would really try against Phoenix. I don't know maybe that is just my take on it.
I am not arguing that Galactus should beat phoenix force, but rather that he should have owned some of the avatars.
