Who wins ?
Dr Manhattan (Watchmen) vs Solar, Man of the Atom
Being made of energy would give you an advantage over a being whose most frequently stated power is control over ALL energy?
I never thought Dr. manhattan is that powerful. they say in comic that in case of a nuclear war he could disable 60% percent of russia's missiles. And people in this thread put him against solar, Parallax and others who could disable all the missiles on the planet while drinking and beer and watching a football game... He is the most powerful character in watchmen, but IMO he pales in comparison to some DC and Marvel characters.

Wow! I learn more and more about this guy. I can see yuor point. That statement would show a serious limitation. I guess I need to read more.

I really dont see how he can only disable 60% of the nukes... couldnt he replicate himself to make 100,000 manhattens all over America...and then disable any nuke he(they) see
" I really dont see how he can only disable 60% of the nukes... couldnt he replicate himself to make 100,000 manhattens all over America...and then disable any nuke he(they) see "Manhattan had potential that was never used. His entire existence was composed of plot-driven acts and character-induced limitations.
Actually, I believe it was stated that Manhattan could destroy 99% of the missiles. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here." I don't know much about Solar, though.
" Actually, I believe it was stated that Manhattan could destroy 99% of the missiles. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here."Yes, it was said that he could stop 99%. However, that still leaves an enormous number of nuclear weapons which he could not stop. This plan had him simultaneously attacking Russia, I believe.
I don't recall where the 99% figure comes from, actually. I know the 60% comes from the excerpt of Milton Glass's book, but I don't have my copy of Watchmen handy. I will solve that mystery tomorrow, if someone hasn't already. Is it your belief that Manhattan could have stopped 100%? Is that why you question the validity of the statement?" @Korg: But I think it was scientists that said that. We don't know if they were wrong. "

Manhattan is powerful, but I don't put him in too high a class. He's still Earth level. He could use some humility by coming to the Marvel or DC Universe and seeing how weak he is compared to most of them.
Could I get a quick update on Solar's power?
This is the excerpt which I referred to earlier. It is from Milton Glass's fictional book Dr. Manhattan: Super-Powers and the Superpowers. The excerpt serves as an interlude between chapters 4 and 5 of the Watchmen graphic novel."It has been demonstrated, at least in well-supported theoretical terms, that Dr. Manhattan could at any time destroy large areas of Soviet territory instantly. It has been similarly theoretically demonstrated that, were a full scale nuclear assault to be launched upon America from Soviet bases in the U.S.S.R. and Europe, Dr. Manhattan would be able to deflect or disarm at least sixty percent of all incoming missiles before they had reached their targets."
" Could I get a quick update on Solar's power? "The original Solar, Man of the Atom radiates energy, back in the 1960s he can fire blasts or absorb radiation. He's like radioactive man or a really poor version of Firestorm.
Then came the 90s a company Valiant buy out GoldKey and suddenly Solar is more like Mxy or fully fed Galactus, he survives blackholes, can transmute planets, and can create Galaxies with his mind, he was starting to end all reality, reshape the whole Universe etc
Dr M and Solar are two totally different power levels no matter which version of Solar you use

Personally, I think Dr. Manhattan could beat Solar if it was the 60s version. If it's the current version of Solar, then he wins easily.
The only problem Solar would have against Dr. Manhattan is actually killing him.
Don't forget Dr. Manhattan had the intrisic field that held his molecules together removed and he still recovered good as new in minutes.
So unless Solar can actually injure him beyond that point Dr. Manhattan simply won't stay down.
Dr. Manhattan never shows even a fraction of his power in Watchmen because their is no one in the novel who can stand up to him so we really don't know what he is really capable of.
There is a moment where Ozy is conversing with niteowl and he mentions. "even if dr M manages to stop 99% of the warheads that would still be enough to destroy the world". But Milton puts the figure at 60%...that said I think Dr.M wins...he clearly possess power beyond the feats he showed in the comics,,that's why he leaves earth in the end because he knows he is too powerful for this planet ,that's justa theory but it seems logical judging by his character

Solar creates realities eats suns and is for all purposes a super-god.
Yeah,,,current solar seams pretty nuts compared to the older one,,,although its never stated what dr.m could truly do but I have to go with current solar,,I'm used to the old version
@beware_my_power: Dat bump.
Sooooo... just to be clear? Stalemate?
Nope,Soler shown to be universe+ level while Dr.M is below planetary level characters
@racob7: I was bored, and like both Doctors :/
@homicidalmaniac: huh... really? Mmm ok
Manhatin'
How
Manhatin'
How
By the power of over-exaggeration of a character with next to no feats=)
@wyldsong: I debate myself who worse Dr.M or SMPOM.
@homicidalmaniac: Manhattan by far...
Dr Solar stomps.
