Manhattan. He is omnipotent level. I'm not sure Thanos and DS could win even with the infinity gauntlet.

No he is not...not even close...

He sure is. He knows everything the future holds. He moves faster than light. He can multiply himself without limit and those copies have the same abilities. He can manipulate matter without limit. He can create life. He can reassemble himself if destroyed. He is immortal. He is invulnerable.

You cant beat Manhattan.

Holy cow...he cannot change what he sees, he has never shown above human speed, you can't prove that he can make unlimited copies of himself and no one knows the extent of abilities those copies can hold, he has never created life, and he has only ever, ever, ever come back from having his intrinsic field removed -- there is utterly no proof anywhere that he is invulnerable. He is virtually featless, and there is not enough to support your claims. Basically you took the mole hole of what we have seen (and some we haven't), and elevated it to mountain status.

Thanos or Darkseid solo this.

#8 Posted by Shadowglenn (582 posts) - - Show Bio

Manhattan has no feats to show he can beat anybody as durable as Thanos or Darkseid, the best he has done is crush a tank. Thanos and Darkseid could definitely make something with 2 months prep to defeat him, even though they don't need it.

#9 Posted by Floopay (8721 posts) - - Show Bio

@Sydneytuah: @jeanroygrant: @Trigon: @Shadowglenn:

There are so many questions that need to be answered about the extent of Doctor Manhatten's powers to even consider discussing this to be completely honest. We have no way of knowing if he can even touch these two. At the same time we have no idea if any of these two can touch him or destroy him (or even if he can be destroyed). The most we know is that he is considered to be like Captain Atom (I've read multiple times he was based on Captain Atom and was supposed to be a replica of him), but at the same time that hasn't actually been confirmed to be his power level.

Thanks for reading,

Darkseid stomps. I don't know whether Thanos' abilities can touch an intangible Manhattan, but I'm pretty sure they can.

I find this too be a tough call. Both Thanos & Darkseid can manipulate matter. Darkseid's Omega Beams managed to remove Lobo a being thought unkillable. Thanos cannot actually die so no amount of damage can technically kill him either. But Doctor Manhattan's abilities are vast as well as...beyond description to get a definate limit on his abilities, although Doc himself admits he must have some limitations.

I say this one is a stalemate. Even if Thanos and Darkseid can defeat him, if Doc can return from completel distagration I see this fight go nowhere...and not in a fast way.

Thanos or darkseid would win. they have matter manipulation, manhattan's trick wont work on them. plus you giving a prep god like thanos 2 months?? who knows what he would come out with, he could come out with the IG or something more powerful and stomp manhattan

Together they stomp the Featless Wonder. With prep it's not even funny.

Dr. Manhattan. He can create life. Dr. Manhattan is almost a heathenistic creation, because of how god-like he is. Darkseid/ Thanos must still answer to God.

please, he is not omnipotent.... that trick he does is called matter manipulation, which wont work on darkseid, thanos since they also have matter manipulation. in fact, doctor manhattan is the only hero in watchman who have superpowers, so he looks very strong in the watchman universe, because he has no competition

Manhattan is neither omnipotent or omniscient. It's already been established on these boards that he isn't even at Surfer's level.

I don't understand why people constantly compare Manhattan to high leveled cosmic beings. Even worse when they try to defend it like he has any chance.

Darkseid solos. Thanos probably could as well.

He can do everything the christian god can do. He can create life, make worlds, be anywhere instantly, be in multiple places at once, read thoughts, resurrect and live forever. The only thing he cant do is change the future or past, which the christian god cannot either. So what makes him any different than a god?

@Murder_2120: There is no proof he is even as powerful as silver surfer, he's nowhere near a true omnipotent god as nixon says he can only stop 60 or so percent of the missiles Russia would send. Also his best feat is crushing a tank... that's nowhere near anything Thanos or Darkseid could do, especially with prep.

It's also said he could wipe the USSR without effort: "It has been noted that "in well supported theoretical terms", that Manhattan could destroy "large areas" of Soviet territory instantly (no notes to quantify "large")- Comicvine wiki.

Also, this site: http://www.livescience.com/3356-watchmen-science-dr-manhattan.html seems to indicate that yes, Doctor Manhattan is in every sense a god and his powers were never fully realized in the comics or movie. If a being can manipulate on the quantum level, he can do anything he wishes.

If he was omnipotent he could have stopped all of Russia's missiles.

If he was omnipotent he would have laughed at Ozy's tachyon field.

If he was omnipotent he could have cured his friends of cancer.

Galactus can do just about everything you stated. Does that make him a god?

Stop saying Manhattan's omnipotent.

@Murder_2120: You're trying to apply real science to comics? That never works and if everything that can manipulate matter is an omnipotent god then there should hundreds of omnipotents in marvel (which there clearly aren't) Sentry can manipulate matter so is a god? But he got beat by hulk

lol dont make everyone here laugh. a god is all knowing, he can see the past present and future of every being in the universe and is omnipresent. doctor manhattan didnt even know that his friend had died of cancer, nor was he clear that he was the cause of the cancer.

Thanos imposed his will across the multiverse w/ the IG, imprisoning Eternity with literally zero effort in the process. Manhattan imposed his will in Vietnam.

Not worth mentioning the two in the same sentence.

So his feats surpass Jesus but yet he is not on a god level? So what does that make Jesus? The christian god cannot do anything he wants either examples:

Judg 1:19: The LORD was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had iron chariots." - So an army with god on their side lost to iron chariots.

Also, If God is omniscient. When he created the universe, he saw the sufferings which humans would endure as a result of the sin of those original humans. Surely he would have known that it would have been better for those humans to never have been born, and surely this all-compassionate deity would have foregone the creation of a universe destined to imperfection in which many of the humans were doomed to eternal suffering. A perfectly compassionate being who creates beings which he knows are doomed to suffer is impossible. So either he is extremely cruel or.. he is not omniscient.

So, if the Christian God cant see the future or change events, what's the difference between Manhattan and him?

Well said.

Well said and very true.

I mean seriously, baseline humans...sure no problem.

Exhibit A:

Now, something more durable...a bit more of an issue, here is exhibit B:

Tanks are far more durable than humans. Thanos and Darkseid are far more durable than a tank, and as we see, durability seems to play a part in this, else the tank would have gone the way of the baseline human in no time flat.

@Murder_2120: The thing is you're trying to match up religion, science and comics. Manhattan has been shown to be neither omnipotent or omniscient. Compared to many others in comics his feats only put him at a low level reality warper, and Thanos has already held up better than Manhattan did against molecular manipulation while he was searching for the infinity gems. Plus having vastly superior power and durability feats along with Darkseid.

This entire post is really quite silly.Your Bible quote said nothing about God doing anything at all.It merely stated that he was on their side.I can be on the side of my favorite baseball team but that doesnt mean im doing anything to improve their chances of winning.

Supposing God is omniscient how can you possibly understand the purpose of our suffering as humans or anything of what he is doing for that matter? In order for you to be able to do so you would also have to be omniscient. Are you saying you're omniscient?

The difference being that Manhattan was in a short lived series designed to end. You never saw what he was capable of but all the evidence points towards him being on a god level. If the Christian God cant see the future or change the timeline and can be defeated by iron chariots then how are Doctor Manhattan's abilities any less god like? Thanos and DS are on god levels as well but on the opposite spectrum. I've never seen them create life or even mention it because they are destruction incarnate.

#38 Posted by Murder_2120 (115 posts) - - Show Bio

@Sherlock: He is not omnisceint because he has emotions. A God who knows everything cannot have emotions. The Bible says that God experiences all of the emotions of humans, including anger, sadness, and happiness. We humans experience emotions as a result of new knowledge. A man who had formerly been ignorant of his wife's infidelity will experience the emotions of anger and sadness only after he has learned what had previously been hidden. In contrast, the omniscient God is ignorant of nothing. Nothing is hidden from him, nothing new may be revealed to him, so there is no gained knowledge to which he may emotively react.

We humans experience anger and frustration when something is wrong which we cannot fix. The perfect, omnipotent God, however, can fix anything. Humans experience longing for things we lack. The perfect God lacks nothing. An omniscient, omnipotent, and perfect God who experiences emotion is impossible.

Because in the world of comics, there are characters with far more impressive abilities that aren't considered gods, and Manhattan has far less showings, and has done nothing to prove he is in the league of God. Nothing. He can see every moment in his life simultaneously and can't change a thing, and can have that ability disrupted -- this does not put him in the same league as God. He is not godly by comic means, and not godly by christian means. Everything is pure speculation, and has no basis in fact/feats.

#40 Posted by Shadowglenn (582 posts) - - Show Bio

@Murder_2120: Manhattan is shown to be a low level reality warper. That is all, not a god or anything more. You can't just speculate that he will become leader of the universe because he looked pretty powerful. This is a fight and from what we have seen Manhattan isn't silver surfer level. It can't be any clearer that Darkseid or Thanos could solo based on feats and with prep it's overkill. Also comparing him to christian gods and religion means nothing, again this is comics and it's not equal.

@Murder_2120: Do you per chance have a chapter and verse on that? Also note that the Bible was written by humans.
To be perfectly frank God in general seems very far fetched to me.You are correct that a God with emotion isnt all powerful so assuming that God is all powerful then he wouldnt have any.Again i would love a chapter and verse so i can get what you said in context

Lol.

Look in the world of Watchmen, his powers are far and above what the known world has seen. Compared to other comics...not so much. There just aren't enough feats/showings to back the play that he is as powerful as some want to believe.

#48 Posted by Murder_2120 (115 posts) - - Show Bio

@Sherlock: The bible is the word of god and it cannot be altered by the hand of man:

(2Ti 3:16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

(Joh 10:35b) … unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken

(Isaiah 40:8)The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever

So no, the bible has not been manipulated by man. Either you believe that and everything in the bible or you do not.

But now the subject is getting derailed. I concede that Manhattan is not on a god level in the comic universe and that he will be thrashed by Thanos and DS.

I wasnt contradicting myself, I was explaining how our God is not as powerful as everyone thinks and cannot see the future. If he could see the future then he wouldnt have human reactions such as anger and he wouldnt need to kill thousands of babies because his first plague wasnt the right choice. He would have just killed the Pharaoh and anyone that stood in the Jews way since the innocent Egyptian people had nothing to do with it and suffered for no reason. So, How is Manhattans limited sight any different?

Not trying to banter here, I'm just cleaning up past arguments. I still agree that Manhattan is not a god in the comics only if he existed in our world.
