Demon vs. ghost

Depending on what source you go with they can vary in power levels. For example, in Shaman King a spirit's power is derived from emotions. So, one who has had a particularly violent death will be more dangerous.

I would say that greater demons, who would include pagan gods and Satan amongst their ranks (or at the very least, the Balrog from LotR), would be above powerful ghosts, even ones like the Ring, the Grudge or Poltergeist (although in the movies they made a distinction between poltergeists and ghosts).

Demon are know to maintain spirits as prisoners. They are able to instantly posses a living being unlikely even the strongest spirits, which the process usually take weeks and even months. Demons are also strongest than even living beings, they are able to lift extremely heavy object like safes.

One thing that Demons loves to do is to cheat on humans, telling they are good or usually taking the form of our fears (Like Aliens). They are able to create fire from nothing and be physically at many places simultaneously. Demons also posses nigh omniscience and use that to fight against Shamans and priests. They are also able to create sickness, kill people just by crashing their skull and create strong electromagnetic fields powerful enough to fry our entire house. (On ghosts, thsoe fields are way weaker and also only generate cold, they use that to maintain their body long enough).

Demons usually usually use Astral projection to travel to our Universe (creating copies of themselves) and are over 7 feet tall and their appearance is very random.

demons are fallen angels who were existing from the beginning of the time

ghosts are trapped human spirits.

from what i have watched from "a haunting shows" demons are far more powerful then ghosts,in some cases they even trap ghosts and torture them in the astral world.
