Death (Darksiders) vs Spawn (First Age)
It depends on what abilities Spawn had access to at that point in time. Is this before or after Houdini taught him he could conjure almost any item from his shroud without expending necroplasm? It's how Spawn could effectively pull all of those guns and things out of thin air anytime he wanted. Although he couldn't, say, make a Nuke from his shroud, it meant he could make however many weapons he wanted without diminishing his power.
While Death can't create guns from thin air, he was responsible for creating some of the most dangerous weapons ever used in the Darksiders universe. Such as Black Mercy, which could auto-kill anyone it shot and emitted an aura that'd cause others to die in the surrounding area from their injuries, regardless of how minor they were. Even a scratch would become lethal in its presence.
Of course Death doesn't have that. Still, what he does have is still quite lethal. His primary weapon, Harvester, is a scythe which can change forms to suit his needs. Mainly from twin scythes to one big scythe and it can steal the souls of its victims. Death is also a powerful necromancer. He can manipulate souls, speak with the dead and command undead, creating undead constructs to do his bidding. Even having used an army of them to build himself a fortress.
DS2 gives Death a lot of weapons to use at his leisure. I would skip over any of the "Possessed" weapons since those're all Player controlled and built on and not Lore Friendly. Still there are plenty of Lore weapons Death does acquire, and armors as well. The armor he's wearing in the above image is the Angel of Death Armor set. It's more of a Bonus Set for fluff though.
Still, there are a number of tools with some lore to them. Like the Black Demise scythes.
"Black Demise is a weapon with a long and bloody history amongst the demon lords. Some legends claim that the unnatural rites used to create the weapon have imbued it with a limited form of sentience. Bound with unholy blazing runes of power, Black Demise seizes the inner strength of every opponent and adds it to that of its wielder."
Or Lifebane, which freezes targets in ice and can steal their life essence when striking their frozen bodies.
"Argul, the Deposed King indulged in many strange and mysterious whims. One such distraction was the creation of this deadly weapon. It pleased Argul to have his monstrous wyrm imbue this scythe with the essence of its own source of power - the lifestealing chill of The Abyss"
Or even the Static Blades.
"This scythe once belonged to an angel, a messenger tasked with traveling through countless realms. The messenger captured the spirit of a mighty storm within her weapon, channelling the strength of the tempest as a conduit to strike down her foes with swift lightning. In the chaos of the End War, the unknown messenger has vanished, and her weapon has fallen to await a new wielder."
There's also the Lich Spines arm-blades.
"The Lord of Bones used this weapon to depose Argul, The Deposed King, Built from the very bones of his finest warriors, the Lord of Bones imbued his weapon - named the Lich Spines - with tendrils of lighting that sear into foes with every blow. The strike of the Lich Spines can shock an opponent, stealing vital Wrath Energy and transferring it to the wielder."
So he's not exactly unarmed and has plenty of options. He also has Mortis, a Buckler which he acquired in the novel "The Abomination Vault". Death uses everything from scythes to warglaives, warhammers and waraxes. Plus gauntlets, arm-blades, bucklers, giant spears and most any wieldable weapon you can think of. Plus Strife's revolver, Redemption, which holds 10rounds at a time and automatically produces more ammo after only a few seconds.
@jeepeh: Black Mercy isn't a weapon Death used himself. He was just responsible for the creation of the Grand Abominations. It was used against Death in the novel "The Abomination Vault". Such weapons are powered by a race of beings that the Nephilim had slaughtered ages ago, the Ravaiim. Without the blood the Abominations would eventually lose their powers and die, so Death keeps them locked up in his fortress.
I think Death has a speed advantage what with his FTB reaction feats and his teleport slash.
WTF is FTB mean? I heard of FTL. Never FTB.
@cadencev2: I think he means "Faster Than Bullets". Which isn't saying much as Spawny here auto-blocks bullets with his chains. Death was just easily evading fire from those Angelic Rifles.
I think 1st Age Spawn just doesn't have what it takes to tangle with Death at this stage. Al was still having issue with Violator, if memory serves. While Death has been stomping down Angels and Demons for millennia, and when the Hunter went on about "Kill Belial? You must be joking! He's a Demon Lord!" Death just replies; "I've killed many lords." and then does go off and kills Belial.

First Age Spawn is pretty tough, but nothing like Second Age. He had more limits on his power, still was grasping his power limits, and he had less showings of powers, like no Time Stop, Black Hole, and Mind Raping.
FTB is short for faster than bullet.
Reikai beat ya to it. Never heard that one. After all bullets range from less than Mach 1 to Mach 5+. Big range gap :)
@cadencev2: Kinda what I meant. Spawn is a great char. But 1st Age he was rather limited and once he ran out of necroplasm, he gets auto-shunted back to Hell. Decap is auto-loss for him as well. There's only so much he could do and he still mainly relied on heavy guns and artillery. It's 2nd Age when he got tricky.
