Deadliest Warrior #1: Captain America vs Batman

Physicals go to Cap. Stronger and faster. More stamina.

Cap took not only the majority, but 100% of the posts were in favor of Cap for physicals so Cap has been rewarded the EDGE. On to ROUND 4: Fighting Skills.

Batman's raw technical martial art skill is superior to Captain America's. Steve isn't far behind though.

Batman is the superior fighter

Batmans superior showings consistently against greater strength opponents out shines Steve IMO.

Captain A,Erica has the fighting against Korvac for 1000 years feat. Not sure if that's sufficient to give him the nod, but it's food for thought. I personally and this is my opinion, believe the master of all forms of combat is more skilled than Batman.

Bruce is more skilled, and more resourceful.

Cap is a solder he fought to kill on countless battlefields in WW2 he takes the edge here he knows how to use his shield in CIC and as sated earlier his Shield backs enough force to hit well above Caps weight class Batman takes a hit from Caps shield he goes and stays down. even un armed Cap is a solder and goes for the kill Batman is a vigilante who never kills IMO this should go to the trained solder who is better in CIC with his gear and even without it will more likely go for the kill.

Batman has learned and mastered every fighting style known to man. It's crazy how people use the fact that he doesn't kill against him. He himself has said that it takes more skill not to kill his opponents. Batman also has stealth skill

In his favor as he has shown on multiple occasions to disappear from in front of someone. Batman has also fought and beaten enemies stronger than him with skill before using pressure points. Bruce is clearly more skilled imo

i think i can sum up batman taking the edge here in one sentence:

Cap is the guy to fall on the wire for his brothers in arms; while batman is the guy who planned for the wire.

Batman also cheats, and is a better inventor. I'm sure Cap has X factors of his own though.

@cjdavis103: They can be anything that is not primarily focused on Equipment, Ranged Combat, Physicals, or Fighting Skills. It could be something like intelligence, stealth, tactics, etc...

One of Batman's biggest attributes (and a possible fault especially if we're talking about a battle to the death) is his refusal to kill the opponent. If you look throughout his canon comic book career, you'll see the staunch refusal to kill another human being, even one who has caused as much suffering as the Joker. Captain America does not have this "do not kill at all costs" mentality. I'd give an edge to Captain America for that.

Batman is more resourceful and creative. Along with his detective skills, he's the kind of guy who has a knack for finding a creative way out of tight situations, whether it's by using his gadgets or his surroundings or whatever, unlike Cap who is more "I'm stronger and I have a shield so don't stand in my way".

Cap:

Captain America always seemed more driven and unrelenting to me. He won't stop until he gets the job done, no matter how broken, beaten and scarred he is (Metallica pun). Sure, Batman is also very driven, but I always thought Cap had an edge in this department.

In "Deadliest Warrior" they DID give an X-Factor to each side, y'know, lol.

Agreed, but I do think his overall point is a valid one. (even if he didn't represent Cap very well)

It's not that Batman can't kill, it's that he does everything in his power to avoid killing. There are very few instances in canon where Batman has actually killed his opponent (the battle against the Sensei during the Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul being one example). Captain America does not have as powerful a drive to avoid killing his opponent. The killing intent is definitely a huge X-Factor for Captain America, but don't make the assumption that Batman can't kill.

Batman's biggest X-Factor IMO is his guile and tactical prowess. While Captain America is a great strategist, I'd argue that in terms of a single opponent vs single opponent fight, Batman is the better strategist. Being a soldier through and through and having been on the front lines often, Caps strategic knowledge is more built around moving groups to victory. For most of his career, Batman has been working alone, so his strategic mind is more centered around using just himself and the environment, not teammates. Batman has also shown that his mastery of manipulating his environment is immense, being able to take down groups of people without ever having to leave the shadows. He's not above doing anything to win, so long as it doesn't mean killing his opponent.

A skyscraper falls on them and the only hope Cap has is using the impact absorbing shield. That scan makes it clear that it can only take so much of that weight. This shield absorbs the force/impact and momentum but it doesn't make that weight magically "disappear". This is a momentous feat for sure. As it states the rest of the weight is being held up by the mightiest will on the planet.

It's not like Cap kills anyone he sees. He kills if he doesn't have a choice. When Batman doesn't have a choice, he just goes all Batmanish and finds a way to keep his foe alive.

When was the last time you saw Cap killing someone without having to? I remember quite in the beginning of the Winter Soldier arc (Brubaker's run), Cap either killed or seriously injured some fodder (AIM operatives IIRC), and Agent Thirteen said that he was acting out of the ordiary.

How is KO/incapitation harder to achieve than death? Batman's whole arsenal is designed for the sole purpose of being non-lethal. Batman has been dealing with enemies without killing them for almost 75 years now.

Yeah, I was talking about that incident. Agent Thirteen mentioned this to him and said he was acting weird lately. Meaning that stuff like that are pretty much out of character for him.

Even Ultimate Cap, who is with no doubt A LOT more brutal, doesn't always kill. He didn't kill Frank Simpson, and that guy tortured him for weeks.

On the subject of killing intent, Steve was trained as a soldier and regularly killed people during World War 2, and he has no mental blocks or qualms against doing so if he has to again. If he can get away with killing to achieve an objective he'll do it without any hesitation, since hesitating in a life or death situation where a fraction of a second means you're dead means he has a fair edge in that area.

As far as tactical and strategic planning, I can't recall anything off the top of my head to quantify who would be "better", though I was always of the idea that Steve is a better on-the-spot thinker and Bruce a better long-term planner.

Meh, Sharon just overreacting. Steve has killed before talking on other occasions before. Like I said, he isn't a blood blooded killer who looks to kill first in a situation, but killing isn't a final option that you have to back him into a corner for him to execute.

I simply don't see Cap going for the kill against Batman, because a solid majority of the time he doesn't go for the kill.

Either way it isn't an "X-Factor", since Batman deals with opponents who are willing to kill all the time, and his no-killing rule never stopped him from seriously maiming and injuring others before. I don't see that being a factor in this fight. Let's leave it at that.
