Both are at their peaks, standard gear, all abilities allowed, and the fight is to the death. Fight takes place in an abandoned Jedi Temple and they start 20 yards apart and visible. Who wins and why?
Darth Bane vs Darth Nihilus
Both are at their peaks, standard gear, all abilities allowed,
Poor Bane.
@wollfmyth209: Mmm, looks like you're trolling. And which fact file? That's contradictory to say the least, given that the amount of knowledge gathered by people like Vititate certainly surpasses what Bane had. Also, that version of the fact file seems to mix canon and Legends.
Still, that should prove Bane is above the other ancient Sith, at least when it comes to resources, seeing as he found Freedon Nadd's holocron, which presumably included the teachings of Naga Sadow as well.
@zapan871: Not trolling, it's Fact File 22(newer, 2012 versions) and Vitiate > Bane sure, but all of the other Sith < Bane now. This is simply a canonical statement, which has nothing to contradict it.
@wollfmyth209: Is that a real source?
@darthduelist9: Yes! :D
@wollfmyth209: I agree about the other ancient Sith, hence why I mentioned Nadd's holocron.
Lads, this has been answered by Fact File:
Sucks that he has little to show for it, though.
Still, nice seeing Bane get some love.
@wollfmyth209: Well Ant's gonna get a heart attack if he sees this....
@wollfmyth209: Well Ant's gonna get a heart attack if he sees this....
Ant gave the quote to me, lol. Plus, this is Path of Destruction Bane. Just imagine, trainee Bane being above Exar Kun :D
@wollfmyth209: Really? That's so crazy but now I can begin wanking Maul :p
@darthduelist9: That's more likely to happen to a certain Kun wanker.
@wollfmyth209: Really? That's so crazy but now I can begin wanking Maul :p
Not sure how you can wank Maul off of it, tbh. But go wild.
@wollfmyth209: Tbh, I hope ILS comes up with something :p
@darthduelist9: DMB has already found a way to work around every single argument against the quote :D
@wollfmyth209: That's great for Bane and the RoT :D Bye bye Nihilus, Exar, ...
Nah, this isn't gonna affect Exar and all those guys badly, it'll just place all of the Rule of Two Sith on a higher level than they once were. Good for them, not bad for the ancients.
Lads, this has been answered by Fact File:
To be fair, Nihilus is a Sith in name only.
That... Honestly doesn't mean jack. He's still classified as a Sith. A deviant Sith, but a Sith nonetheless.
@wollfmyth209: Well, it sorta is bad for them, because the Banite Sith trained with far greater resources, which would have helped them a lot in growing more powerful. And it's very good for Palpatine, seeing as that basically confirms him as the most knowledgeable Sith.
@zapan871: Well the ancient Sith are still their OP selves, just that Banite Sith are now more OP.
@wollfmyth209: Just realized you were posting that in every thread with Bane.
But why is Vitiate excluded from that quote? Because of superior feats? If so, I could easily make a case for Kun beating Bane.
Because Vitiate didn't exist when the quote was made, so it doesn't necessarily have to apply to him. Plus he has a similar accolade way before his prime.
People like Exar, Nihilus and the likes all need to take a backseat now.
@wollfmyth209: Just wondering, is the quote saying that Bane gained more knowledge and mastery of sith power than any who came before him, or that he gained more power than any who came before him? After all, the next sentence mentions knowledge and skill, not power.
Either way, though, hurray for Bane!
It applies to his knowledge and mastery of Sith power and, as any good Sith will tell you, knowledge is power. Basically, Bane's more powerful, more masterful and more knowledgeable as a Sith than all who came before him(with the exception of Valkitiate).
@wollfmyth209: Actually, Vitiate did exist at the time, seeing as the Fact File came out in 2014.
@wollfmyth209: How old is that quote?
@darthant66: So what if they're excluded from the fact files? TOR was still canon, so that statement applies to Vitiate as well, although I find that weird. Bane has inferior feats.

It is power in the sense that it increases your Force abilities, but that doesn't automatically make you better overall than people with less knowledge. There are various examples of why that isn't the case, one of them being Savage Opress, who is more powerful than people like Kenobi or Plo Koon in spite of having less knowledge of the Force.
There's obviously exceptions to the rule, but most of them are extremely powerful, and innate Force users like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi(who'd above Savage in power, tbh, but that's a topic for another day), Savage, and the likes. But even in Disney canon knowledge of the Dark Side leads to greater power(think back to the holocron lady and Ezra).
Nihilus oneshots
That accolade proves nothing and is inherently false seeing as Bane was amazed at how much Darth Revan knew, and if the claim is he had known more than any that came before then its contradicted by the books.

No book says old Sith > Bane, and this is Bane as of Rule of Two, when he expanded his knowledge beyond just Darth Revan.

Yes, he was amazed by Revan's knowledge, but that doesn't prove anything, and you forget that he also studied Nadd's holocron, which should be the source of Exar Kun's own knowledge seeing as it should contain Naga Sadow's teachings. The only Ancient Sith with greater knowledge than that is Vititate himself.

Anyway, another problem with the power part of the quote is that it elevates Bane above Nihilus, which is contradicted by feats, seeing as Bane needed a nexus to drain people, something DOE confirms, whereas Nihilus could do it on his own, and on a far greater scale.

Um, that honestly doesn't prove anything. Bane didn't need a nexus to Drain people, he needed a nexus to keep the Death Field stable. Besides, just Drain doesn't indicate power. In terms of raw power, Corran and Kyp are pretty damn similar, but I think you'll agree with me Corran dwarfs Kyp in TP and Tutaminis and Kyp dwarfs Corran in TK. Just because somebody's better at one power, doesn't mean all their other powers are neccessarily superior as well. Nihilus has far better Drain, but his overall power is canonically inferior.
@wollfmyth209: You forget Nihilus Tk'ing a fleet.
@zapan871: Just because Bane never did that, doesn't mean he can't. Especially when he's canonically superior to Nihilus. Vader never murked Luke via TK, or killed a hundred people with the flick of a finger, but since he's stated as superior to Geth, we assume he can. Dooku and Maul never knocked down four trees larger than ships or disintigrated Durge, but since they're superior to Kenobi, we assume they can. Playing the "feat-only" game in order to lowball a statement doesn't really hold up.
Besides, a far inferior Bane compared to DoE has collapsed temples over 20 meters in height, add in a couple of decades of extreme power growth and I'd say that's TK that rivals Nihilus.
