TV commentator Jack Ryder has been challenged to spend the night in the creepy old haunted mansion just outside of Gotham City. It's a publicity stunt but, shortly after arriving, Ryder heard noises. Someone is trying to frighten him off.
Ryder changes into the Creeper and moves through the house to investigate. This is the pre-Crisis version of Creeper. He has enhanced strength and agility and a healing factor but does not have the supernatural powers of the more recent version.
What Jack doesn't know is that the mansion is where creepy Mr. Carswell, hid the money he stole from the bank where he worked years ago.
Carswell had posed as the Creeper, a phantom/zombie able to walk through walls years earlier. He used the disguise to keep from being suspected, and he would have gotten away with it, if it hadn't been for a group of meddling teens who unmasked him.
Carswell has resumed his Creeper disguise and knows of many secret passages in the house that he uses to further the illusion that he can walk through walls.
Carsewell has also learned how to spawn strange plant-like Creepers and has a dozen of them stationed through the mansion as guards.
Finally, Karswell's former cellmate, (This is the character, or characters, played by Rondo Hatton in the movies The Pearl of Death, House of Horrors, and The Brute Man) also known as the Creeper is acting as his personal bodyguard.
The Creeper is freakishly strong and durable and kills people by strangling them or wringing their necks with his huge hands.
Karswell originally hoped to use his Creeper disguise to frighten Ryder away, but when that failed, and Ryder became the Creeper, Karsewell deployed the creepers and the Creeper to kill the Creeper.
Can the Creeper avoid the creepers, overcome the Creeper and unmask the Creeper?
A quick note of apology to Jeepers Creepers fans. The Creeper does not appear in this battle.
