Really ? I have heard it been argued that Hal Jordan could beat Classic Thor since he was able to defeat Superman... so why doesnt Alan Scott have a shot here ?

I never said he doesn't have a shot, I just don't believe he'll come out on top! Thor outdoes him in the majority of ways, ie power, experience, strength! Alan Scott does not equal Thor in those stats!

Thor should be able to take this with some effort on his part. Alan is no push over and his mystical power ring is a match for any Green Lantern.
