Classic Strange is extremely powerful. The guy did battle with the Living Tribunal; while LT wasn't aiming to kill him, he was still shocked at the power Strange displayed. Back in the day, Strange was doing battle with immensely powerful beings on a weekly basis.

For Golden Superman, the guy doesn't have a lot of feats under his belt.

Just to let you know, House of M Wanda was retcon. it turns out prior she and Doom merged her powers with the life force, the force of life of the multiverse I believe. That's why she was so powerful.

why are people so hung up on feats, because sometimes the character with less feats is obviously the stronger of the two. Thor has a million times more feats than Dr. Manhattan, but would you say that he is DR. Manhattan's equal, much less superior? Superman 1 million takes this battle in stride, because even though Dr. Strange is very strong and magical, Supes 1 million's weaknesses are greatly reduced

Classic Strange amazed the Living Tribunal at how powerful he is, defeats the In-betweener, stalemated Adam Warlock WITH THE INFINITY GAUNTLET, and took over a black hole. There are plenty of other feats for Classic Strange that is insanely crazily powerful. Plus, he went toe-to-toe with Marvel's Cthulu which is Shuma Gorath and won multiple times.

Also, Thor wins against Dr. Manhattan. He tends to be omnipotent but cannot even stop all the missiles from hitting.

Mostly because the Strange stories didn't get along very well with the Marvel classic stories once the 70's and their lot of global concepts were over. Strange back then had already been fighting with the most powerful entities constituting the fabric of reality while the most the other heroes had seen was planet buster and required what would soon be known as a crossover.

Strange suffered from presenting a main character that was both too powerful and too complicated for the rest of the Marvel readers. Once the separation between the "magic" titles and the rest of the Marvel titles had become too obvious, they simply decided to de-power him in several occasions so that he could be reintegrated to the rest of the MU. Sometimes with a story, sometimes without it. There has been a very strange era with the Defenders. If I had a scan machine I would try to summarize this all for you in pictures, but unfortunately I haven't got one. One day maybe I'll stop being lazy and will drag my ass to the shop to buy one.
