5 round fight, unified mma rules. Being refereed by Herb Dean.
At 205 pounds. Anyone think Weidman would stand a chance in this super fight (that will probably never happen)

Smart money would be on Jones since he is the bigger fighter. I was soooo pumped for the Johnson vs Jones fight too!!!
Yea I was p*ssed about the Johnson vs Jones fight getting cancelled too. I'd be cheering for Weidman and he could do it, but honestly I think Jones would win. No way Weidman would have beat Silva in his prime.
@sheenlantern: Why do you think? I agree mostly just want to know why you think so.
From everything we've seen of both, Jones should win. His biggest advantage is reach and in this case fighting at a weight he's more comfortable in than Weidman.
But even at a middle ground catchweight I would (currently) back Jones.
Generally speaking, I think Jones is more dangerous from the top position, but is also more vulnerable to submissions. As to the bottom position, both have tremendous take down defense, and I can't remember any meaningful time in that position for either. Based on qualifications in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I'd say Weidman is better than Jones in that position.
Who's better on the ground?
@granitesoldier: Do you think Weidman has the potential to be that level? If he clears out Vitor, Rockhold, Jacare, and Romero, which he very well could do over the next few years if he remains uninjured, I think it will be hard to argue he doesn't have a decent chance against a guy like Jones.

I think he has the potential, but whether or not it's been proven yet is a different matter. I can only assess them as fighters based on what I've seen, so like I said I side with Jones for now at least.
@granitesoldier: I think that physically Jones is just too much for Weidman.

Jones is stronger from what I know, but Weidman is a wrestler foremost and wrestling is more about mechanics (well, all of fighting is) rather than power. Weidman is a better ground fighter in my opinion, but I don't think it'll matter with Jones' superior striking and undeniable reach advantage. I don't think he'll ever get to take Bones down.
Again, this is only based off what we've seen of Weidman so far. Jones has faced more higher tier talents so far in my opinion, and has basically cleaned out the LHW division.

Jon is bigger, stronger, and better at virtually every facet of MMA. The only aspect you could argue Chris has the advantage is in is BJJ.
Plus, Chris is very big for a middleweight. He's enjoyed a big size advantage against Munoz, Maia, Machida etc. And therefore has developed a wrestling style that allows him to take full advantage of his size and strength. This would be his undoing against the much bigger and stronger Jones.
