I have no idea who would win... but i feel like Choji has some kind of strength he could pull out, however Shikamaru is the tactical one. And because of that, Shikamaru would probably win...

With no one's life in danger, Choji is still soft. It took three tries and half an episode of flashback to get Choji to even touch an edo Asuma, who: A) wanted to be sealed, B) was a serious threat to other shinobi, and C) was coaching Cho along.

Shikamaru, contrastingly, is beyond genius level. His strategem, ability to use pre-hand knowledge, and situational awareness cancel any heart-and-hope power Kishimoto would pull out for Choji. Shikamaru wins.

Shikamaru beats regular Choji but Butterfly Choji stomps Shikamaru

Shikamaru with prep would stomp, dudes a tactical master even in the early season with the Chunin exams.

Choji wins in every way. Shikimaru doesn't stand half a chance against choji in an actual fight.

Choji doesn't fight smart, he depends on his calorie control for brute strength, while Shika is more versatile with his Shadow techniques, intelligence, and use of his sorrounding, not to mention some of Asuma's techniques and trench-knives.

U are right that choji would be too soft to fight shikamaru....but choji brute strength is too much for shikamaru shadow imitation jutsu. It has been proven numerous of times that ninja with a lot of physical strength can break his jutsu. And shikamaru doesn't have a lot of chakra to fight with choji for an extended amount of time. If choji chooses to fight he will beat shikamaru with no prep. He is too strong and powerful for shikamaru's jutsu to do anything to stop him

You're right, Shika has fairly low chakra reserves, but those who resisted the technique were Kinkaku in six-tails mode, who's legendary either way, and Kakazu, who (along with Hidan) was a problem for all of team 10 and Kakashi. I am not willing to say that Choji is comparable to those three, especially morals on against his teammate

@ghost_rider1: And Cho almost died doing so. Also, he doesn't carry food pills anymore; he can induce the Butterfly augmentation on his own, which would ruthlessly destroy Shikamaru without prep. But in character, Choji has proven that he is hesitant to act, less willing to harm others, and even if his own life is in danger, his reaction is based on whether his comrade's life is at risk. His showing against edo Asuma was his most pitiful demonstration of lack of will. Shika is Choji's bestfriend, and much less willing to lose his life. And he's a tactician. If Shikamaru can push Choji to ignore his softer instinct, he might even push Choji to fold. Choji will never kill Shikamaru in a fight to the death. He didn't even want to "hurt" his already dead teacher. He's not going to end Shika's life.

Agreed.. But still, it's not going to be easy. Choji has gotten much stronger in shippuden. But shikamaru is very good at dodging and hiding. Even with choji's incredible raw power, it's kind of tough to go against shikamaru..

I agree that in character, Choji would lose because he's not gonna hurt Shikamaru.

BUT, I also agree that with morals off, this would be an absolute stomp in Choji's favor.

Choji DEFINITELY has enough physical strength to break out of Shika's shadow possession. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just wrong.
