@stealth_warrior:
Now that I have completed everything on my to-do-list and since there's no posts for me to reply to for my other debates, I can settle down to this highly intriguing debate especially since I have wanted to settle this one in particular as I am a big fan of both of the franchises.
Although I would call your opener a highly professional rundown and expert formatting of the Conduit's abilities, by seeing the first tiny number link I knew you'd copied/pasted it from two Infamous Wikis but I did a quick search just to be certain. Regardless at least it's something to counter and I don't mind how you debate to be honest, but by relying on Wikis as source information it just makes it all the easier for me to point out some of the evident flaws such as the following:
- "Cole combinesmartial artswhile electrifying his hands to fight his enemies" - From what I can recall, it was never stated nor demonstrated that Cole possesses knowledge of any martial arts type so based off of his showings he's not exactly "skillful" in the aspect apart from using his abilities to perhaps augment his hand-to-hand combat.
- "At the end of his final confrontation with the Beast, he got a glimpse of his full potential when thefully charged RFI amplified his powers" - The RFI didn't amplify Cole's abilities at all as it's sole purpose was to extinguish the Conduits as a whole, it was by activating the seven Blast Cores (correct me if i'm wrong on that number) to the end of the game that allowed Cole to become as powerful as he was.
- "He appeared to have apermanent form of Karmic Overloadhe was seen using in the first battle. His Static Thrustersallowed him true flight ability" - The first underlined point along with the seemingly "limitless" amount of energy Cole obtained at the beginning of the game cannot be proven, it's only assumed but the more likely event against the Beast at the end was that Cole's body was automatically feeding off of John's recyclable energy. It'd also be more likely that it was John's gravitational manipulation, rather than Cole able to actually fly as he was literally forced up into the air whenever John came close.
Those were really the main points I had problems with but otherwise everything else for Cole/Delsin was relatively okay so now i'll start running down the Prototypes themselves, but in regards to videos for some reason it won't allow me to upload so we'll have to make do with links for this post at least. Rather than taking my usual approach of listing the Prototype's physical ability, i'll start off by establishing their skill and intellect onwhy there's no way a bike courier and a tag artist could compare in either of these aspects:
Skill & Intelligence:
Before Mercer had adapted to the Black-Light virus, he was one of the head researchers at the "Gentek Biological Research Facility" and discovered the proper source of the virus along with it's rather volatile history. By possessing an already excelling intellect at this point, he'd be considered a genius in the field of biology and in general terms by applying his knowledge.
After releasing his vial and adapting to the virus itself, Mercer was gifted with the ability to consume living organisms obtaining the memories and appearance of the victim although this is seemingly limited to human beings and any other organism he consumes only grants him a portion of biomass and/or some of their abilities. The collection of the memories Mercer can access is called the Web of Intrigueand the canonical statistic of minds he possesses is 131. Most of these mind aren't just coming from any average individuals, so to give you an idea of the diverse intelligence Mercer has at his disposal:
- 1st Lieutenant James Goodwin
- Sergeant Joseph Sorenson
- Dr. Ricardo Garcia
- Captain Mac Marshall
- PFC (Marine Corps) Jesse Arel
- Private Damien Loshek
- General Peter Randall
- Head Captain Elite Robert Cross
As you can see, Mercer possesses the brains and skills from just about every rank of the United States military system along with pilots/vehicle coordinators (hence Mercer's ability to easily maneuver tanks or pilot helicopters) and learned doctors. Be my guest if you're willing to research the qualifications for those plus there's dozens of more examples I could list but I figure this should do it, Mercer's intelligence and skill is beyond the reach of any single mind across the globe.
Onto James Heller, before also adapting to the Black-Light virus he was one of the sergeants of the Red Crown military and his mission was set out to "stop" Alex Mercer himself to avenge his wife's demise and thought to be daughter Amaya's too (only to be revealed later on that she was merely held captive all along). By default his level of skill and military intelligence to achieve that rank is impressive enough as it is but like Mercer, Heller was also granted with the ability to consume and obtain the minds/appearances of the human beings. Although the type of people the Prototypes have consumed are mostly the same, here's several consumption examples for Heller's sake (some based off of the Blacknet Events):
- Lieutenant Clint Riley
- Dr. Samuel Billingsley
- Gentek Facility Commander (Unknown Name)
- Dr. David Castleman
- Corporal Jeffrey Fasolo
- Dr. Lawrence Foster
- Commander Chapin
So there you go, both Heller and Mercer are playing roughly on par with each other in terms of these aspects but i'd say Mercer has the more extensive knowledge based off of the bigger number of minds he has consumed plus his experience/adaptation from being a host of the virus itself. That's a basic rundown of the Prototype's level of intelligence/skill so in the scenario where we restricted everyone's powers and set both teams on equal physicals, the Prototypes would quite easily wreck the Conduits but since we're actually using their abilities that only furthers their advantage as they massively excel in physical ability which is really the only aspects they require to sweep this battle in their favor:
Physicality:
In terms of listing off Cole the Conduit's parkour and physical attribute abilities, i'd honestly bland those sections counterproductive as they really don't compare at all to the Prototypes. I'm not saying that Cole/Delsin are not physically excelling, but the only premise that's delaying their inevitable demise is their powers as their raw physicality is paling in comparison so i'll start with the basics:
(If any of the videos don't start at the correct time, tell me and specify the timing)
- Strength - In terms of raw strength Alex has thrown human bodies considerable distances as if they're weightless, can swoop up cars and easily throw cars while running at top speed, has ran up entire skyscrapers whilst carrying cargo trucks, and has flung tanks with one-hand effortlessly. Heller has replicated most of these feats bar the last one, but has ripped off tank-barrels easily.
- Durability - Mercer his highly resistant to bullets as it takes at least hundreds to significantly harm him, has only taken tenths of full damage from tanks shells while getting straight back up after each it, has taken out military bases while handling most of their firepower, endured blows from super soldiers and supreme hunters (who can easily take apart tanks in a matter of moments and has resisted force that had blown up tanks on contact. Heller is completely bullet-proof, has endured hits from Brawlers, Evolved, Juggernauts, Goliaths, and has handled a couple of hits from thermobaric firepower designed to wipe out city-blocks with every homing rocket.
- Regenerative Abilities/Healing Factor - While at full health any small to moderate amounts of damage Alex receives can be healed from within seconds without the need of consuming extra biomass, he regenerated from hole plowed through his face after shot point-blank by General Randall, and consumed a crow to regenerate at cellular level after he was hit by a nuclear bomb. Although Heller again possesses the ability to replicate most of these feats, he has regenerated from completely after being incinerated and shot by consuming a soldier.
Though there's more to be said, this should suffice to say that the Prototypes physically exceed the Conduits in every aspect of the field to the point where so much as one punch from either Prototype would take Cole or Delsin's head off so they'll have to avoid any chance of being hit. Based off of the Conduit's destructive/offensive capabilities the Conduits don't bring much to the table against what the Prototypes have endured/regenerated from and they certainly don't compare in anything else regarding this section so it's safe to say that they'll be forced to rely on their resourcefulness of their powers.
Unfortunately while i'll admit that both Conduits have demonstrated the ability to harm the Prototypes, there's never anything of significant value on the table suggesting they could deal substantial amounts of damage other than the infamous (see what I did there) "Cole's powers revolve around electricity, and since Mercer was harmed by Cross' shocking device that means that Cole could easily beat him" argument that'll be used throughout the debate I can fairly assume but i'll save you some time mate as i'll debunk it here and now:
- In order to pin a weakness onto a character, you'll need more clarification and evidence rather than one instance. Not to mention, it was never stated nor indicated that the Black-Light was truly vulnerable to electricity but it was only assumed by the fans.
- Since it was never used on Mercer again, one could assume that his ability to adapt (like he did to the blood-tox gas, a confirmed weakness from Alex) permitted him to overcome it and handle it altogether based on his own durability rather than he previously did.
- If you've played the game, you'd have noticed how limited you were rather than Alex's usual ability to jump around and lunge kick your opponents. Directly after this instance, Cross had used a syringe to nullify Mercer's abilities so the more likely event of this occurring is that it was nothing more of a plot-device to enhance the story and create a new objective for the player.
Since there's no significant basis to justify this instance as a weakness, the argument is rendered as a baseless and exaggerated moot point. Instead of relying on the opposing weakness one should always focus what the character has done, shown the ability to do or at least something holding weighted baring suggesting what they could possibly accomplish. Considering that I own the entire Infamous and Prototype franchise to date, i'm aware of exactly what both teams have demonstrated the ability to do or what they're capable of but more importantly on what they're not capable of.
Although as I said earlier the Conduits possess the abilities to do fair amounts of harm to my team, most of their abilities lack substantial force or power in order to significantly damage the type of durability on the Prototype's caliber. The demonstrations of power contradict the type of arguments people use to say Cole can beat Alex as they mostly rely on real-world logic which is inapplicable.
On the other hand, the Prototypes possess and demonstrate everything to suggest that they're capable of handling most of what the Conduits can dish out plus they can eventually tag them (as there's not enough feats for the Conduits handling anyone who can maneuver at the Protoype's caliber and their defensive abilities aren't forceful enough to counter their physicality) with evidence to suggest they can one-shot either Cole or Delsin so pretty much any argument for them can be applied where as the same cannot be said for the Conduits considering the amount of trouble they can have and be overwhelmed by in their own games were as the Prototypes would noticeably handle with ease.
Post Conclusion:
Based on what each team's abilities and limited demonstrations are able to do, the Prototypes are the ones to clearly excel in virtually all aspects regarding an actual fight. They possess the sufficient durability feats enabling them to tank the most of what the Conduits can dish out, beat either of them with a single shot and are more than capable of tagging them throughout disregarding the need of their shape-shifting abilities (that i'll get into in my next post). In the end i'd see Cole getting eaten by Alex and Delsin by Heller, and both are granted with brand new abilities unless they can't due to the conduit gene but either way I really don't see how the Conduits can compare.
