If you have to make rules like this to even out a fight, should you be making this in the first place?

Yes. He still has numerous other abilities; and even if you took them away he still has greater strength, speed, and flight. All he has to do is grab Cap; fly into space, and throw Cap at the sun. Even if Cap somehow manages to survive unaided in space (which is can't); the sun would fry him.

If you need to add a bunch of power upgrades to a character to make it even, you probably shouldn't make the thread in the first place.

As for the battle, Thor takes this. Much as I love Cap, even if their power levels were made closer, Thor still has more experience. Added to that are his variety of abilities (flight, weather manipulation etc). Even if you take away all of Thor's extra powers and made this a strictly HTH fight, I guess Cap could try to stalemate him, but then what's the point?

If you need to make all of these upgrades just for the match to be remotely fair, it doesn't really work. Because it ends up as 'Two guys with roughly the same powersets brawling' as opposed to 'Cap vs Thor'.

Giving Characters Certain 'buffs' or Removing Powers

I generally don't have a problem with this, as long as it's not overdone. Things like upgrading certain characters to a certain physical levels, or removing powers for two opponents to gauge hand-to-hand skills is fine as long as the fight is fair in the process. However, giving people like Hulk the Power Cosmic or people like Nightwing a Green Lantern ring is unacceptable because neither character has displayed the skill and/or competence to use such weapons/items. That said, it would be difficult (and in most cases, nearly impossible) for people to debate. Threads of this nature will be locked if it becomes an issue.

Creating a thread

• Is it honestly a fair match? Can you see either combatant winning or are you legitimately torn on who the clear winner is? If not, don't make it.
• Does the match need a TON of rules to make it remotely fair? If so, don't make it.
• Is the match between two fairly popular characters? It's likely going to be a dupe, so PLEASE search for it first (if the function on the site doesn't work, use google!). If so, don't make it
