Black Bolt vs Thanos

He didn't want to fight them and certainly didn't want to seriously hurt them and the planet. Besides he nearly one-shotted Sentry in that fight and was handling the entire Avengers when he took the fight somewhat seriously. It only took every thing Sentry had in a dive bomb attack from space to end the fight.

I would think of it this way. There are acids that can burn through metal but not plastics or glass due to certain types of reactions. Metal is much harder than most glasses and plastics yet the acid has different affects on both.

I wouldn't both are powered by Anti-matter. We're not comparing him fighting the JL vs him fighting the Avengers. We're comparing an unstable Anti-man who has the same power as BM beating the Avengers, while BM didn't.

But still, everyone in the Avengers just didn't have any method of fighting him right? I think you understand the analogy or where I'm trying to get at.

There's no argument. From my understanding, you're saying that BM is a Anti-Matter specialist and that's why he's able to fight Anti-Man who happens to be another Anti-Matter manipulator. The Avengers had a harder time without BM because they didn't have the "type" of power to fight against him.

To explain the confusion, I made my post before you guys had had a conversation and responded to each other so I didn't understand the context till later.

Got it. All this talk about BM, going to reread it tonight! So glad he's back in Mighty Avengers, I hope it's not a one and done and gone for years again...

Short version: The way Black Bolt was presented in X-Factor was, IMO, PIS, or the author didn't quite understand who it was he was writing. Black Bolt cutting loose should be a grand event; he's taken down Hulk and Gladiator; in WW Hulk, the BB impostor took out chunks of the moon, in Infinity he took out a city, and in War of Kings he took out Vulcan and helped tear open a giant rift in space-time (I know the Terrigen bomb did a lot of it, but still, BB's voice was presented as truly epic). In X-Factor, he was not shown as anything special. That issue was the first time I had actually seen Black Bolt in action, and in no way did it give me the impression that BB's voice was supposed to be leagues beyond Cyclops' optic blasts, which is should have if it had been trying to do him any justice at all.

Going from the bottom, Thanos isnt amped in infinity.

And that anti-matter bomb Drax collected, has never been used before, perhaps it was just that powerful. Perhaps it was because Drax was using it.

Also even in the issue in question, it was made pretty clearly Thanos was still weak, and hadnt recovered to his full powers, although had recovered greatly, so that might have a little to do with it.

I think the point they were trying to hammer across was Thanos cant be killed, and a way to demonstrate it was with Thanos being killed and immediately coming back to life, they needed something to kill Thanos there, i suppose anti-matter charge was as good a plot device as any.

@freefa11: Yeah I think your right about that. I remember reading how Black Bolts scream was about a nuke yet for the last decade or so It's been said that a Full power scream would blow up planets, rip holes in reality, and the T bomb which was powered by his voice put a tear in the space and time. I think Black Bolt character was new and not expanded on. Still it was a good showing for Apocalypse.

Black bolt has a chance, he made him bleed before even not using his loudest scream.

What you saw in infinity was a whisper and that cause a good amount of cosmetic damage a scream is a totally different ball park.
