Battle Of The Best Swordsman

Everyone here is competing for the grandmaster sword crafted by the Blood of Lucifer and Tears of Jesus. This sword was crafted by the souls of the forgotten in the realm of the underworld and Hades himself forged this upon the impossible and crafted this spiritual item to undo worldly order.

Hades himself is the creator of this tournament and has selected 20 of the finest Men and Women to utilize their skills but nullify their abilities in the process. The greatest swordsman will be awarded The Sword Of Lies and deem the omnipotent power of all that is holy.

Each contestant has a Promethium/Adamantium/Vibranium/Carbonadium Katana melded together to slash through everything and stats are equalized

@princearagorn1: That Zoro is spelled like this. Pretty sure he means the other Zorro. @iragexcudder doesn't watch that Anime to my knowledge, but I believe he is into the classic characters like Tarzan and Zorro. Dynamite Comics I think.

Honestly not sure, this is a pretty close battle. I'd say guys like Zorro, Zemo, Nightcrawler and Conan wouldn't get as far as most of the others. There's so much skill and experience to take into account, it's a tough call.

Ah, my bad. Didn't that zorro also have an animated adaptation? He was pretty cool there iirc.

Edit: Yep he did. God I loved the intro when I was kid. Wow, How could I forget.. He was the reason I took up fencing, lol..

Also, what are Drizzt and Conan's book feats like?

why is mihawk not on the list of the best swordsmen? i think that dante and vergil deserve a spot as well

@iragexcudder: Different swordsmen in fiction have their own swords of choice. It gives certain characters an automatic disadvantage to give them all katanas.
Zorro uses a rapier.
I don't know what Ra's Al Ghul's sword of choice is, but I don't think it's a katana.
Nightcrawler uses a rapier.
The Black Knight uses what appears to be an English hand and a half sword.
Helmut Zemo uses an English broadsword.
Conan uses a two-handed broadsword.
Drizzt uses two swords of Elven design, appearing similar in function to scimitars or Chinese daos.
Zealot's creation blades have had variations in appearance, but usually look similar to Chinese jians.
Deathstroke's usual sword is similar to an English broadsword.
Batman doesn't tend to use swords at all.

So out of the 20 swordsmen you picked, only half of them would likely call the katana their sword of choice. The rest are more proficient with other swords.

Black Knight vs Deadpool DP has a gear familiarity edge. And with equalized stats, lack of powers etc, it's small details that win or lose.

Helmut Zemo vs Conan Conan is good with damn near anything he hefts. I'd give it to him on versatility and Zemo not being familiar with the Katana.

Drizzt vs Wolverine If Wolverine was fighting to his peak, he gets the usual weapon familiarity nod.

Samurai Jack vs Zealot It's been more then a decade since I've seen Jack. Too rusty to weigh in.

Blade vs Gorgon I'll pass on this one as well.

Deathstroke vs Batman Batman is more skilled then Slade.

Shredder vs Taskmaster If Taskmaster could steal moves I'd hand it to him, but otherwise based on his own merit, he gets nerfed and Shredder is a beast.

Drizzt vs Wolverine (Both are underlined for a reason. I have the feeling many do not know about Drizzt - in a pure sword fight, he should win here. If Wolverine is granted his healing factor, and due to the metal reinforcing his appendages, I give him the nod only barely, quite simply cuz he'll soak more. But Drizzt is definitely the better swordsman.)

Blade vs Gorgon (Gorgon beyond a shadow of a doubt).

@kaang_the_watcher: yet all swordsmen are masters of all swords; so they metaphorically know the basics and knowledge of attaining such a weapon. Pretend they're masters of a katana to disregard further confusion.

From what I know, I'll side with Taskmaster or Deathstroke. Maybe Samurai Jack, don't remember much of him.

Not really.

To people like us (non-master swordsmen), yeah, they're all different variations of sharpened sticks with handles.

But to the actual masters of the craft, there are huge differences between one-handed swords, two-handed swords, single or double bladed swords, et cetera.
Conan, being used to a solid two-handed cut-a-horse-in-half kind of sword would have no idea how to skillfully use something as light as a katana.
Zorro, who uses and trains exclusively with light one-handed foils and rapiers, wouldn't know how to properly use a two-handed sword like a katana.

I just feel like this would all make more sense and be easier to judge if you gave each swordsman his preferred sword type.

Does that mean that those with superhuman physical stats are bumped down to peak human?

I'll back Zannah to win the whole thing, even with equalized stats she has the (large) edge in battle experience and is arguably the most skilled swordsman here, she doesn't really rely on her stats to carry her through battle anyway.

Match 1: Zorro vs TMNT Leo
Zorro is good, but I don't think he's take-on-Shredder-solo good. Leo has got this.

Match 2: Katana vs Silver Samurai
In a straight katana fight, this is as close as it gets. I think I'll give it to Harada, but just barely.

Match 3: Ra's Al Ghul vs Nightcrawler
Lack of powers and use of a different kind of sword will seriously hinder Kurt. Ra's will win very easily.

Match 4: Black Knight vs Deadpool
Deadpool has a better track record of wins via skill, and is more accustomed to the katana than Dane is. DP wins.

Match 5: Helmut Zemo vs Conan
I'm backing Conan just because I don't think Helmut Zemo has had a single noteworthy win in his life, and Conan is probably stronger.

Match 6: Drizzt vs Wolverine
They probably have roughly equal skill, but Wolverine has a tendency to forgo his skill in favor of fun brutality. Drizzt would win.

Match 7: Samurai Jack vs Zealot
Despite Jack being powered by Toon Force, I think Zealot has enough skill to be the kind of enemy he would lose to the first time he meets them. Zealot wins.

Match 8: Black vs Gorgon
Gorgon, easily.

Match 9: Deathstroke vs Batman
Batman is awesome, but he doesn't tend to use swords. Deathstroke does.

Match 10: Shredder vs Taskmaster
Shredder, easily

1vs10: Leonardo vs Shredder
Leo can fight Shredder, but I don't know if he can take a majority against him solo. It often takes the whole team of Turtles to beat Shredder.

2vs9: Silver Samurai vs Deathstroke
Silver Samurai, for no other reason than because he has more experience with a katana.

3vs8: Ra's Al Ghul vs Gorgon
Gorgon wins.

4vs7: Deadpool vs Zealot
Zealot is WAY more skilled than Deadpool.

5vs6: Conan vs Drizzt
Drizzt wins.

1v10 VS 5v6: Shredder vs Drizzt
I really don't know. I feel like Shredder might be slightly better, but don't quote me on that.

Stats equalized? Assuming you're also going for a power negligence and going for straight skill, I'd say Drizzt. His constantly evolving combat style and over 600 years of combat experience will give him the edge here.

Taskmaster will be the hardest, because he has the greatest diversity in skill since he's fought most fighters in Marvel, but without powers he can't copy Drizzt and considering Drizzt has adapted on the fly to swordsmen of equal skill to his own who have studied his fighting styles and still come out on top, I think he gets my nod.
