So this is an idea I've been thinking about for a while now, figured I'd go ahead and give it a shot.
This is going to be a tournament with characters from Avatar: TLA and LOK.
I'm looking for an even number of teams, at least 6, probably no more than 12
Each team will be composed of several named characters as well as large groups of unnamed fodder-type characters, creating essentially a small army
Each team will pick:
- A field commander: someone to lead your troops in battle
- A prepper/strategist: someone to help with planning and prep time
- 5 groups of unnamed characters (this will be explained further later), 50 in each group for a total of 250
- An earthbender
- A firebender
- A waterbender
- A wild card (any bender/nonbender)
- A fortress: a location for your army to defend (again-to be explained later)
For each battle, one team will be the attackers, while another team will be the defenders. The attackers will be laying siege to the defenders inside their fortress. Victory is determined by the attackers conquering the fortress or the defenders defeating the attackers.
To balance out the defending team's advantage of having a fortress, the attacking team will receive some sort of advantage to be determined by me and the two participants. This advantage could be environmental, extra prep time, weapons, maybe an extra bender, etc.
Both teams will have a day of prep before the battle begins. This prep can be used to gather resources based on what the Commander and the Strategist have access to (and possibly what the groups of unnamed characters have access to), to develop a plan, to fortify defenses, etc. I'm still working on the specifics of what all will be allowed, and I'm sure we'll get a better idea of it as we get started
Now, to explain some of the categories:
The unnamed character groups can be any group of fodder or generic, nameless characters found in the show. There don't actually have to have been 50 of them for you to pick them, they just have to have been a generic type character that had pretty standard abilities. Here's some examples of what I'm thinking:
- Fire Nation soldiers (bending/nonbending)
- Dai Li
- Yuyan archers
- Metalbending cops
- Metalbending security
- Earth kingdom soldiers
- Water tribe soldiers (bending/nonbending)
- Water tribe healers
- Equalist chi blockers
- Equalist soldiers
- White Lotus firebenders (from LoK, like the ones guarding Zaheer)
- White Lotus earthbenders
- White Lotus waterbenders
- Air Nomads (the generic ones)
- Bison rustlers
- Earth bending prisoners (the ones trapped with Haru and his dad)
- Pirates
You get the idea. Be creative, don't hesitate to ask me if something is ok. This isn't an inclusive list, and I'm willing to make distinctions for things like different types of Water tribe/Earth kingdom soldiers, etc
As for the fortress, I'm looking for someplace where your team can be based and defend against an attacking force, here's some examples:
- Ba Sing Se
- The North Pole
- Omashu
- The Fire Nation Palace
- The Northern Air Temple
- Zhaofu
- Foggy Swamp (not a traditional fortress but it could be used as such)
And so on. I think there should be enough
Here's some final rules about picking:
You can't pick the same character twice. For example, no picking Azula as your strategist and as your firebender
Bloodbending: obviously this needs some limits. These rules might have to be modified but it worked pretty well in the last tournament I was in so I'm gonna try it here. I'm open to any suggestions on rules to make this as fair as possible
Bloodbending can be used to throw people's aim like Amon did
Grapples will last 2 sec maximum to hurt, immobilize, throw. It'll take 5 sec to be able to do it again. You can use it on one enemy at time
No instant ko/death via bloodbending
- No picking the same character as another person in the same category. For example: if someone else has already picked Azula as their strategist, you can't pick Azula as your strategist. You can, however, pick her as your firebender
- You cannot pick the same combination of unnamed characters as another participant. At least 3 of your groups must be different (might make it 2)
- You cannot pick the same fortress as another participant
As a couple final notes:
- Make sure you are capable of effectively defending your fortress. I wouldn't recommend picking the North Pole and not having any waterbenders, for example
- The advantages given to the attacking team will help make sure that they are capable of attacking the defending team's fortress. However, again, the advantages may be influenced based on the resources your team has access to, so chose wisely
Do not pick your team immediately when you sign up. We will pick teams in a fair, orderly fashion, likely in a draft style or maybe in another format (again, I'm open to suggestions). Obviously it'll depend on how many people sign up
With that said, please respond if you would like to participate, if you have any questions, anything at all
Here's a list of people I have signed up:
- KnightOfZero
- YoungJustice
- Joewell
- Aressword
- blackspidey2099
- LlehDevil
- Gizmorino
- Jacthripper
- Pierpat
- Arcus
