Balrogs, secondly took 'form of giant flaming creatures, but were maia like Gandalf, the sun-moon-tree eater took form of a spider, ungoliant. If they are going to continue in that form, they're dead. But in their original form, it's vastly another story.
morgoth, for example, is directly second to God, has all the aspects eru has, and is immortal (couldn't be killed by valars), has gone against God and was still fine. He doesn't even need help. He's like an evil LT.. or.. maybe more, because I don't think LT could last after going against TOAA..
