I was curious to which point was actually Anakin's peak of power. So, Anakin as he was on the Invisible Hand after Palpatine told him to use his anger versus Anakin as he was after embracing the Dark Side. Place of battle is Mustafar.

Pre-Suit Vader is a lot less focused and thus unable to call on the Force as effectively as he normally would. Anakin wins.

@brightsteel: anakins peak power is when he falls to the dark side befor he gets the suit so pre suit darth vader would win

If darth vader before he got the suit did not lose on mustafar he would be the most powerful dark side user in exsistance

@obi_wan__: kind of, but Vader in the time of the episode VI was at his most powerful incarnation, according to the books, that Vader was more skilled than the Vader who fought The Apprentice.

Many sources have suggested that pre-suit Vader is a hindered and weaker version of Anakin. So I'm pretty sure Anakin is better by default. That, and his feats are generally better. Whereas pre-suit Vader struggled with Kenobi, Anakin was matching Dooku as a combatant.

@wollfmyth209: many sources? in the novelization of ROTS Anakin's power was at his peek in Mustafar, he was around Palpatine's power in that time. (he lost to Obi wan, but I bet everyone knows why that happened.)

@purple_d_dragon:

It wasn't at the battle of Mustafar. Many sources(Dark Lord the Rise of Darth Vader for example) noted that during that duel - Vader was vulnerable and between two worlds and couldn't bring his might to bare. He was emotionally hindered. And no source ever proclaimed he was equal to Palpatine, let alone in that state.

Anakin was at his top while enraged and going after Dooku aboard the Invisible Hand. In that state, he was Dooku's clear superior. Whereas in this state, he was equal to Obi-Wan whom Dooku bested handily.

@wollfmyth209: . . . nope. he was stronger in Mustafar, he beat Dooku, but he lost due being frustrated for not being able to pass Obi Wan's Soresu. the duelling lightsaber forms are important in a duel.

Darth Vader stood on the command bridge of the Mustafar

control center, hand of durasteel clasping hand of flesh behind

him, and gazed up through the transparisteel view wall at the

galaxy he would one day rule.

He paid no attention to the litter of corpses around his feet.

He could feel his power growing, indeed. He had the measure

of his "Master" already; not long after Palpatine shared the secret

of Darth Plagueis's discovery, their relationship would undergo a

sudden... transformation.

A fatal transformation.

Everything was proceeding according to plan.

@purple_d_dragon: That quote doesn't prove anything. He "felt" his power grow, but that power was ultimately unsable due to his emotionally and mental hinderence. Whereas in the state where he fought Dooku, he kept getting stronger and stronger:

Skywalker was all over him. The shining blue lightsaber whirled and spat and every overhand chop crashed against Dooku's defense with the unstoppable power of a meteor strike; the Sith Lord spent lavishly of his reserve of the Force merely to meet these attacks without being cut in half, and Skywalker—Skywalker was getting stronger.

Source: Star Wars: Revenge of The Sith

Now compare that to Anakin being stated as being vulnerable and between two worlds in Dark Lord the Rise of Darth Vader:

Anakin had still been between worlds then, and vulnerable.

Source: Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader

Later on, it was once again confirmed that Anakin's arrogance and fuel from the Dark Side lead to his defeat:

It was Anakin's overconfidence, fueled by the dark side, which led to his defeat. A mistimed leap over Obi-Wan allowed him to swiftly cut Anakin, leaving him disabled on the shore of a lava river.

Source: Lightsabers: A Guide to the Weapons of the Force

One quote from a novel filled with outliars and hyperboles(such as Anakin's strength being that of a meteor, the MagnaGuard's having light-speed reaction time, or Sidious beating Yoda whereas most sources state they are equals, etc.) isn't enough proof. Their side-to-side feats clearly favor Invisible Hand Anakin as superior.

but he lost due being frustrated for not being able to pass Obi Wan's Soresu. the duelling lightsaber forms are important in a duel.

Anakin was actively pressuring Kenobi's defenses and almost broke them multiple times. Him getting frustrated is irrelevant, if anything the rage should amp him. And lightsaber forms aren't as important as actual skill. If they were, then Aayla should beat Kit Fisto because Ataru>Shii-Cho and Savage should beat Dooku because strong attacks are a good tactic against Makashi. But neither of those is the case. Anakin was at his highest when enraged during his duel with Dooku, where he pretty much stomped the Count, who's a clear superior to Kenobi in every aspect.

Anakin Skywalker is indeed significantly stronger, especially when he gets mad,he could easily overpower Vader just like Luke did on Death Star ROTJ movie. But Vader is significantly more powerful, much more wiser and had a better tactics and techniques. Not to mention that Anakin Skywalker at the point of Invisible hand,in past only faced battle droids and Count Dooku countless times, while Vader fought against a lot of different jedi with different tactics and different combat dueling styles etc.

I am going to follow the old saying : ''Mind rules, strength stocks'' and i am going to say that Vader wins 7/10.

@cis: This is pre-suit Vader. In other words, the mad and aggressive Anakin Skywalker who lost to Kenobi.
