If trees are organic matter then he can consume him, or at least some of him. Alex also has the stats to hang with him as well as superior weapons

Groot got slugged on by thanos and was fine afterwards and groot knocked thanos into the ground. Mercer is not going to win this easily especially especially since trees are near.

I would give this to Alex, but the fact that there's trees around turns the fight in Groot's favor.

Which brings the question of whether Alex can absorb plant matter.

He can. He can actually absorb any matter.

Comic groot however especially in this situation is much stronger then Mercer I'd say.

Dunno if he has to weaken an enemy like groot though.

Groot. Alex needs to weaken a foe to absorb them, and Groot's regeneration allowed him to be unphased by something like having his head cut off.

But how is groot going to put down Alex?

He could probably just incapacitate him with blunt force. Alex usually just seems to agile for the military to bombard him with enough stuff to down him.

Mercer tanks rockets to the face while sprinting up buildings at 50+mph carrying a 2 ton vehicle which he then throws with perfect accuracy at a helicopter from half a mile away without breaking a sweat. and that's when i'm just bored and don't bother with crazy campaign feats.

mercer could pretty easily dodge or tank that though... or he just shreds through the foot.

Groot isn't exactly slow. He can get very big and eats blunt damage pretty easily. He also has a healing factor . GRoot fights people like the hulk and a (weakened) Thanos pretty well. In all honestly especially in this situation, I can confidently say Groot is definitely much stronger.

If Alex can cut Groot, he can pierce the Adamantium as well. As far as I can remember, one comic book stated that Groot's wood was stronger than the metal covering Wolverine's bones. This would mean that the hardness of the biomass and / or Alex blunt physical strength itself is much greater than we previously thought.
