- morals off
- fight is in marineford
- win by ko, incap or death
- no outside help
who wins?
Shanks IMO.
Blackbeard ran like a b**** when Shanks showed up, and the entire battle ended when he arrived.
In fact, even Akainu gave up on his pursuit of Luffy when it meant that he might have to fight Shanks.
And the Gorosei have claimed that Shanks is one of the few people who can beat Blackbeard (Blackbeard with Whitebeards DF, so arguably the most powerful OP character at the moment). They said no such thing about Akainu.
Shanks
Akainu had a hard time against an old, sickly Whitebeard and the 4 Yonkos' were each other's rivals already.
@ssj_god: we have no feats for Shanks only hype
@ssj_god: we have no feats for Shanks only hype
we do have a few actually...
he can go on head to head with mihawk in sword fight...... rivals white beard in power.... their clash (WB and shanks) literally dissected the sky....... and he stopped the marineford war.
ohh.. and have all 3 hakis
Akainu also made Blackbeard run.But there is context in both case which makes both feats redundant.
1) Shanks made Akainu back down but only after he was beaten by WB.A fresh Akainu wouldnt back down vs Shanks when he was eager to fight WSM.In fact, any Younko would make Akainu back down, he definitely wouldnt beat any of them in a state like that.
2) ) Blackbeard had plans and ambitions when he was told Sakazuki was approaching. No reason to fight a top tier for a ship.If he had fought the marines that day, he probably would have lost some of his crew and probably not become Younko.

The battle with Whitebeard showed no negative effects on Akainu really. WB only got like two punches in, and they didn't do any serious damage on him.
He was still fully willing and capable of fighting Jinbe, Croc, Ivankov, Inazuma, Curiel, etc. after the fight. Even Blackbeard didn't stop his pursuit.
However, Shanks showing up was able to halt him in his track. Halt everybody in their track for that matter.
Not to mention the fact that Shanks was able to match WB blow for blow, and their fighting tore the skies. And that was a fresh WB, rather than the taxed WB that Akainu fought.
By feats: Akainu.
By hype: Shanks.
why is it that one piece is the only verse in which anyone goes by "hype"?
there's no real evidence either way. especially since we dont know what they can do post timeskip. none of the top rung has done anything except kuzan
In fact, even Akainu gave up on his pursuit of Luffy when it meant that he might have to fight Shanks.
he was half dead and bleeding...
akainu is strong , his devil fruit is one of the strongest and he proved to be the toughest at marineford during the war
shanks is a yonko, fighting on par with mihawk , went 1 vs 1 with whitebeard , stopped the war and that was after having a clash with kaido, plus shanks' haki is the strongest in one piece
shanks wins by far
yonko > admiral
Pre Time skip pretty sure Shanks takes it because Akainu was slightly weaker than Whitebeard who was at his age weaker than or equal to Kaidou who is equal to shanks since shanks stopped him from coming to marine ford post time skip who knows.. However we can be almost certain Akainu got stronger now that he's fleet admiral no indication shanks did
By feats: Akainu.
By hype: Shanks.
If the encounter takes place, I'd bet on shanks. Going by feats is really unfair to a character like him, though. Because he has only been used for brief moments till now.
Shanks feat of colliding and being even with a healthier Whitebeard than the one that absolutely stomped Akainu put him above Akainu already. Shanks and Whitebeard split the sky when they clashed with one attack. No evidence of Akainu replicating that, although in his defense he got kicked around.
To make this clearer, Shanks nullified Akainu's attack casually. Who cares about an iceberg being melted? Akainu lacks relevant feats here if anything. Shanks has enough feats to make it clear who would win. Mid difficulty for Shanks.
@leo-343: Let's not ignore Shanks stopping Whitebeard's attack with one arm and splitting the sky in half. Why didnt Akainu and Whitebeard split the sky when they had their fight? That apparently happens only when the two top guys clash and Akainu isn't one of em, Shanks on the otherhand is.

Akainu is a fleet admiral, if he's not a top guy I don't know who is. A fleet admiral is = yonko by status
Akainu's feat of losing soundly to an old, wounded and terminally ill Whitebeard suggest otherwise. No way he is Whitebeard or Shanks level or I doubt he ever will be given his age.
@leo-343: You say he's a troll, and he could very well be, but maybe he's just implying that Akainu isn't Yonko level.
Beata
@leo-343: Are you talking about the he could find One Piece in 1 year statement?
Or has Oda literally said he was Yonko level?
Beata
@leo-343: Obviously Akainu is somewhere in that league.
He is the big bad before BB afterall. I just don't like when people misintrepret that statement to mean Akainu is the strongest OP character.
Beata
We have to remember that the shichibukai AND the admirals are meant to act as an opposing force to the Yonko. Ultimately, I don't think the Admirals are absolutely on the same level as the Yonko. They could certainly put up a fight and possibly pull out a victory depending on the matchup of abilities, but I'm seeing an individual Yonko being stronger than an individual admiral.
why is it that one piece is the only verse in which anyone goes by "hype"?
One Piece is an extremely massive series with a big focus on characters and world building. A character can be introduced in chapter 42 then not appear again until chapter 678. It's all for the sake of anticipation and foreshadowing, or "hype" in other words. We KNOW that Shanks is massively powerful and when he eventually becomes a major character, things are gonna go down. But the story focuses on the Straw Hats and Shanks is too far out of their league for them to hang out right now. I mean it might cause controversy on the battle boards, but the mystery is very effective from a storytelling standpoint. Shanks is a legend in-universe and we get that sense because of the way he's portrayed.
@oblivionknight: Of course.
Akainu is arguably the strongest admiral, but i doubt he could beat any of the Yonko aside from BB.

By feats: Akainu.
By hype: Shanks.
@nickzambuto: Have you read the last few chapters? Shanks might be getting some action soon.
No, I'm still way back on Fishman Island to be honest.
