2nd labor of Hercules: Kill the Lernean Hydra

The evil, snakelike Hydra had nine heads. If one got hurt, two would grow in its place. But Hercules quickly sliced off the heads, while his charioteer, Iolaus, sealed the wounds with a torch. Hercules made his arrows poisonous by dipping them in the Hydra's blood.

How does the Myrmidon king fair here?

Is it a random encounter? Because unless he has some fire with him, Achilles is gonna get eaten.

Providing this isn't just a random encounter, and Achilles gets to prepare the necessary equipment to actually put down the Hydra, he should manage. If not, then this is silly because Achilles can't kill it.
