the spartans take refuge in helm's deep and prepare a desperate last stand vs 10 000 Uruk-hai.

how long do the spartans last?
Wow, I actually remembered the first reply made to the thread started like this:
...and promptly become orc and troll food.
isengard stomps in one of the biggest stomps in comicvine history.
/thread
@princearagorn1: They don't have the exact terrain but they do have something somewhat similar in terms of a narrow gate to defend with.
I don't know why people think that this is a stomp? I don't know if Spartans can win, but they can hold positions in helms deep keep, for a long time. There is only one, relatively small and narrow door leading to main hall; so strength in numbers won't help Uruk-hai one bit. Theirs long spears also will be largely useless in confined space and unlike Spartans Uruks have no shields...
Call me crazy, but I that Leonidas can win this.
Spartans last 10-15 mins at most.
Well, they get slaughtered, but 10 minutes is not enough to even conquer the whol empty fortress with closed gates.
They definitely can fight for some time, but they will lose in the end.

I guess I meant that once the fighting starts, they will last that long.
@sodamyat: Amen!

I doubt that. They are vastly more skilled than Uruks and even though they have shite gear, they always can take orcish weapons. Not to mention that in standary equipment of Helms Deep is the armory you know?

I'm not sure about that man. I think they would be pretty overwhelmed by 10,000 Uruk Hais. Sure the Spartans are more skilled, but even Gimli acknowledged how threatening the Uruks were.
Isengard slaughters. Terrain played a major role in 300, they don't have that here.
I'm sure an average Spartan (from the 300 film) has what it takes to beat an average Uruk Hai, but not easily. However, in this scenario, i don't see how the Spartans can win.
@ordinaryalan: Well, they always can create a phalanx in the upper courtyard or in the main hall doors. I think that OP should give them prep time and some reinforcements as it was in the movie, book.
@jwwprodOr this isn't as bad as I kill off this pathetic Spartans in Crimea! http://www.comicvine.com/forums/battles-7/spartans-vs-the-daein-army-1668795/

@king_ashnard: Why are you talking to me?
@deus: lmao
Isengard. Spartans are an extremely effective hoplite force but 10 000 is far too large an opposition. A good phalanx could hold for a time and thanks to Lacedaemonian society being a militaristic one, with almost all facets of the society put in place so as to benefit Sparta militarily, each Spartan is very, very well trained. A spartan man is not exempt from constant training and military service until he reaches the age of 60 staring from when he is placed in the agoge. They are excellent soldiers and while the 300 movie was very exaggerated, it does demonstrate Lacedaemonian martial prowess. Although a fair amount of credit should go to the fact that Persian forces are ill suited to engage with heavily armed hoplites, which helps explain the measure of success the 300 had. Still however, the battle at Thermopylae was only a delaying tactic to allow the rest of Greece to sort itself out. Sorry for the rant, I have a had a few beers and am coincidentally a classicist so I jumped at the chance to lay down some knowledge.

Pffft the spartans got beat by weak little asian men. Uruks eat the best of Lothlorien and Rohan for breakfast
No contest.
@eisenfauste: Well don't discredit the Persians. For all that the Greeks held the same opinion of them (well the East in general) as being effeminate, they still forged the largest empire the world had yet seen. They were good tacticians and warriors which is based from their origins as nomadic warriors. Persians were expected to fight well and a man's value was determined first of all by his valor in battle and then by the amount of sons he fathered. They are very proficient horsemen, and among other things are also excellent administrators. As for the Spartans losing, like I said it was a delaying tactic, they knew they were going to die but in Spartan society that is an honor. Also in reality there were actually several thousand allied Greeks including Spartans at Thermopylae. Still when one considers the numbers which Alexander encountered during his conquest of Persia (several hundreds of thousands and even up to one million troops) a force so small could never possibly hope to hold forever. Isengard still wins, I just thought that the Persians should not be dismissed as weak girly men when they were not.
@theredheadedyeti: I was kidding, I know my history.
@eisenfauste: Ah, my apologies then. The pffft should have been a red flag for me. Sorry I have a tendency to rant when it comes to this particular area of history.
@theredheadedyeti: Understandable, the longer on the vine you'll soon be able to distinguish between ignorant posts and troll posts :P
@eisenfauste: Hopefully I learn at a break neck pace as I prefer not to feed trolls, they belong under bridges.
