I think it is Jim Gordon

#2 Posted by danhimself (22270 posts) - - Show Bio

before the New 52 I would have said either Superman, Jim Gordon, or Dick

now? I don't think he really has a best friend

Superman and Dick are two forerunners, but truthfully, above all else it has to be Alfred.

Alfred is more of his father while Dick is his prodigal son( sorry Damian).

But these are his best friends

#8 Posted by RustyRoy (10832 posts) - - Show Bio

Jim Gordon.

#9 Edited by spidermonkey2099 (614 posts) - - Show Bio

I think his best friends would probably be (in approximate order): Alfred, Dick Grayson, Jim Gordon, and Superman.

Batman doesn't have friends. He has enemies, allies, and acquaintances.

i guess Clark... and i agree with everyone who said Alfred is like a father figure and Dick more like a protege

#25 Posted by Joygirl (18454 posts) - - Show Bio

The correct answer is Clark Kent. Alfred is a father figure, Dick is a son figure -- his best FRIEND is Superman.

Batman doesn't have a true best friend. There isn't anyone who truly "gets" him. Except maybe Joker. And he's not his friend.

True

#30 Posted by Breadspread (774 posts) - - Show Bio

@thejester: I agree.

...but, for the sake of the thread, I think the closest thing Batman has to a friend is Jim Gordon. I would say Alfred, but I see Alfred more as family.

Harold Allnut, people often forget him, but he used to be his best friend and make most of Batman gadgets.

#34 Posted by Jayc1324 (9267 posts) - - Show Bio

Thomas Elliot used to be Bruce's best friend until the events of Hush. Superman is more of an ally. Alfred is like a father. All the robins and batgirls are more like sons and daughters. And some are his adopted children. Batman has no true friends, but Clark kent would be the closest. They are around the same age and have equal respect for each other, and neither has more authority so they aren't like son and father. But he is still more of an ally

People beat me to the vengeance joke. dang.

Dick is pretty much his son and alfred his father - that would make it either jim or supes and that really depends on the writer/story.

in the new 52, i think its superman. in the second arc of JL the members was saying how batman trusts no one until supes declared he only trusts him. Also, i think it was the cheetah issue when superman became a cheetah, batman got pretty emotional about having his friend saved.

and also i think aquaman and bruce have been getting pretty close, i like they interactions

#37 Posted by ultimategirlshileha1236 (110 posts) - - Show Bio

Superman is his best friend Alfred is like his father Dick more like a son

#38 Posted by aerllyhong (12 posts) - - Show Bio

I don't think he has friend.

#39 Posted by Selinaky (677 posts) - - Show Bio

Superman and Wonder Woman, and perhaps some other JL members. I find the Superman/Batman friendship the most interesting, though.

Afred is more of a father-figure, Dick's like a son and Jim Gordon an ally.

#40 Posted by SheenLantern (6198 posts) - - Show Bio

Bruce and Nightwing aren't really a father-son thing, the way they interect reminds me of a buddy cop movie.

I would say either Dick or Alfred are Batman's best friend, though Superman's best friend is Batman.

#41 Posted by GeekyEverAfter (344 posts) - - Show Bio

Alfred of course! He's been Bruce/Batman's loyalist ally and faithful butler since the being of his origin, Jim Gordan and Clark come secondly.

#42 Edited by Vitality (1761 posts) - - Show Bio

Clark Kent.

Just watch the Justice League episode where Clark "dies".

Watch Superman/Batman Public Enemies.

#43 Posted by AjO16 (68 posts) - - Show Bio

I think his best friend would be Clark Kent/ Superman. I know most of the time they see there differences but Batman knows Superman will always be there for him.
