I might be in the minority here, but I think it's a little excessive. Even though batman almost always wins, I've always liked knowing in the back of min that he's still vulnerable, that he can always lose if he messes up even by a bit. Now he's got so many damn gadgets in his suit it makes you wonder whether he needs to use the bat cave for anything. He's the bat form of R2D2. Hell, add some laser blaster and he might as well be iron man. I'm just now getting into new52 with the most recent detective comics plus zero year, but hearing this makes me a little disappointed. I've always liked batman because he was batMAN, not batROBOT.

Not afraid of change, just seems like he's almost too invulnerable. I like knowing that he still has weaknesses and watching him overcome them with wit and willpower, not just too good to be true security features built into the suit. Now he's got a built in DNA forensics lab, security cameras, strobes, and impossible to take his mask off? Oh and niw 100% bulletproof? Just seems like there's too many "easy ways" for him to win.

@ultrastarkiller:And fireproof,can whistand concentrated acid and extreme pressures .

@dmreyn: Batman already has most of this thing in pre-flashpoint universe,so why the complain? Take a loook in Batman Capability Website... Bruce isn't a street lever (he's more to a city leveler) and in a city like Gotham this kind of thing is more than necessary because there are no more ordinary crimes,but instead supercrime ,not to mention is leader of the Justice League now.

Ah,thanks dude! :)

Also,his cowl basically allows him to see in many spectrums of light and enhances his vision and auditory functions (as you said).

He also has powerful mini explosives,and tons of other gadgets (that I can't think of right now).

Great list,btw.

Also,his armor,while still susceptible to knives,is far more durable and can withstand low-level explosions and such.

@cameron83: @entropy_aegis: Updated

@jonny_anonymous: Why?? Marvel has street leveler characters more ridiculous equipped than him (Moon Knight,Night Trasher).

Actually:

1. Carbonadium is not more durable than Adamantium.

2. Barely Any Marvel street levelers are incredibly prepped. And Moon Knight barely has much in comparison to Batman. If that's the case,then that makes Batman AND the entire Batfamily FAR ridiculously overprepped.

And can we stop comparing everything with Marvel/DC. It's f*cking annoying and almost childish.They're 2 seperate companies that are their own with their own characters and both are equally awesome.

I don't see Batman overprepped and I don't think that Marvel street levelers or ANY of DC's street levelers are either. And Batman isn't really invincible...I mean,he can still be hit and hurt and his armor can't stop everything.A blade has shown capable of going through it,after all. So he's not overpowered.

@matchesmalone21: You do raise a good point. I guess I have a different point of view based on what I'm reading/have read. I haven't read a lot of the newer stuff (the most recent Batman I've read was Hush and Under the Hood). Most of the stuff I've been reading lately is late nineties/early 00s, and currently I'm working my way through No Man's Land. Due to that, there didn't seem to be a need for all this advanced tech. In those stories he's fighting Joker, Bane, Hatter, Penguin, etc, with the most SuperPowered villains being the likes of Clayface or Freeze, so he wouldn't need the type of equipment he currently has (unless he was on Justice League missions, which somebody mentioned). That being said....if, in more current Batman, his enemies are becoming a lot more enhanced, super powered, or technologically advanced, then maybe all that tech is more justified.

I've never heard the terms "street leveler" vs "city leveler" before, but I can understand what they me. I've always thought of him as a "street leveler", but I suppose maybe his status has changed.

The more I read the less I start to like Batman

So do you dislike Superman because he's extremely powerful? Do you dislike Iron Man since he has really advanced tech? Or are these things only bad when they benefit Batman? It seems the cool thing to do is dislike/hate Batman nowadays for whatever reason and give other characters a pass even when they do the exact same things as him. I don't see a problem with him getting a tech upgrade, it's realistic if you were a rich genius living in a world with people like Superman and Martian Manhunter would you not want to protect yourself better?

All characters evolve Superman originally was a street leveler who couldn't fly, Iron Man and Lex Luthor's tech have greatly improved, no one complains. Batman does it and it's the worst thing in the world and people jump on the hate bandwagon and start disliking him. If he didn't get an upgrade people would spout out the tired "if he were real he'd die on his first night" or that him surviving in a world full of metahumans was PIS. I love when people pick and choose when to have a problem with something, being too strong is ONLY bad when it concerns Batman otherwise it's ok. Predictable and sad.

I have no opinion on Iron Man at all really and Superman is fine as long as he has a clearly defined power-set and doesn't start pulling random ability's out his ass also the difference between Superman is that his villains are always more powerful than him in some way, Lex is smarter, Bizzaro is stronger, Matallo's literal existence is a poison to him but with Batman it's the opposite, he's always the smartest guy in the room, always the guy with the most advanced tech, always the guy with the best fighting skills, the only reason half his villains are a threat to him is because most of them just try to play with him rather than kill him.

As for needing all the tech because of living in a world with Superman ect well that's something I don't like about comics in general, all the unneeded crossover, I'd much rather each character stayed in there own city with there own characters and didn't interact with each other much at all, maybe have the Justice League form once a year as an event but that's it. I want to see Batman use his detective skills to fight crime in Gotham City, I don't want to see Batman use tech to fight aliens on a space station.

@jonny_anonymous:So I believ you're reading John Layman's Detective Comics,right? Batman uses most of these gears in the comicsand is capable to do doing detective work quite well,in no way the gears hampers the story at all.

@dmreyn: In the 90s he doesn't use much tech,because wasn't needed but after 90s it has undergone a reinvention, basing on the real world or as close as possible to it, as well as their villains and this is why more and more technologies have been added to his stories.

Some recommendations: Batman :Death and the Maidens,Batman: City of Crime (Collection),Batman: War Crimes and Batman:Face the Face

@cameron83:

1) I said durable as Adamantium,not more durable or equal.

2) I compared these two,because in DC there isn't not many characters (Outside of Batfamily) that can be recognized as street levelers, the closest would be the Marvel characters. Look at the way you're talking to me, because I am no cursing anyone here and if this continues,if this conversation continue like this is going to get worse.

Actually,regarding 1,it isn't as durable....

What do you mean with 2?

DC has many street levelers outside the Batfamily. And Marvel does have many street levelers (as DC does,as well) that aren't easily recognized as such. Basically,DC does have many cool street levelers outside the Batfamily (I believe Guardian,from the Superman group can count),and so does Marvel. Although some will be hard to identify,as there are equally in Marvel...

When I said that whole thing with "not comparing" and such,you do realize that I wasn't really talking to you,right?

Well,do you know how in the solicits and previews and such,we see a younger looking scorn? In here,we see an older one,because he's an inmate,but since he's failed Wrath so many times,Wrath kills him and says he is going to an orphan home to look for a new Scorn.So the one you see in the issue is not the actual Scorn.

@cameron83: I mean that there are not many in New 52 (outside batfamily), Pre-Flashpoint existed many street levers and generaly forgotten,but now there's few such Deathstroke,Midnighter,Black Canary (she isn't from Batfamily anymore),Condor (birds of prey member),Green Arrow and Katana. Let's forget the last part and move on.

@cameron83: @jonny_anonymous: A little recommendation read also the John Layman's first arcs that set up Emperor Penguin,it's really good.
