More Details on Batman: Arkham Knight Revealed!

More Details on Batman: Arkham Knight Revealed!

We got the announcement yesterday that developer Rocksteady was returning to the franchise they started with Batman: Arkham Asylum and bringing us a "final chapter" later this year in Batman: Arkham Knight. While the initial announcement revealed some things about the new title, the latest issue of GameInformer revealed many more details including the size of the map, the uses of the Batmobile, and what the title 'Arkham Knight' refers to.

Taking place just one year after the events of "Arkham City," the plot of the game will see a Gotham that has come under siege from many of Batman's famous villains including Two-Face, Penguin, Harley Quinn, and Scarecrow, but also a new face. "Arkham Knight" is not just the title of the game, but also a brand new villain that has been added to the mix. Rocksteady has reportedly been working with DC's Geoff Johns to create the new character, but they're remaining tight lipped about him for now.

"We hadn't in the previous games introduced someone new to the universe," game director Sefton Hill said. "We wanted to introduce someone who could really challenge Batman to go head to head with him in lots of different ways. We're not talking about those ways just yet but this guy is definitely a formidable foe for Batman."

The Gotham we see in "Arkham Knight" will be even bigger than the previous versions, taking place on three different islands throughout the city which the developer says is five times larger than "Arkham City."

"As we've said before with Arkham City, it's not about scale as much as detail," Hill said, "We want to make sure the world is rich and full of interesting things to do. We're not trying to create the biggest open-world game ever. We are trying to create a really rich, vibrant, dense open world."

The Batmobile is the biggest addition to the gameplay of "Arkham Knight," and Rocksteady wasn't shy about their ambitions for it.

"We wanted to make the best car in any game ever," Hill said. "That was our mission statement right from the start."

With the push of a button, fans will be able to summon the Batmobile to their location in order to speed off into the night. Not only will the Batmobile provide convenient transportation, but it will also serve as the basis for many of the Riddler's challenges in the new title.

No sequel to "Arkham Asylum" and "Arkham City" is complete without the man himself, and GameInformer has confirmed that Kevin Conroy will indeed return to voice the Batman in the upcoming final chapter.

Batman: Arkham Knight will debut on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC this October.

I am not excited to hear that Geoff Johns has invented a new villian for this game. He needs to stay as far away from batman or anything related to batman as possible.

Okay I just read the announcement and saw the father/son promo. Really the first I've heard of it. However, it looks kick-ass...

— Paul_Dini (@Paul_Dini) March 4, 2014

And as it's Rocksteady, you know it's going to be great. I can't wait to see more.

— Paul_Dini (@Paul_Dini) March 4, 2014

Trust Rocksteady, gang. They know Batman.

— Paul_Dini (@Paul_Dini) March 4, 2014

Well It is good to know that Paul Dini thinks that they can do a good Batman story. But my most pessimist side think that he is just saying it to don't look bad with the team of Rocksteady.

Good that you created this discussion thread we will be needing it.

@black_arrow: I hope there are way more villians than just two face penguin Harley Quinn riddler and arkham knight. Maybe arkham knight has something to do with the prophecy azrael made but even if it doesn't they better have that in there too.

And I do like how the jokers death has an affect on the characters in the game. It makes his death feel like am actual important even and not something done for shock value. And ras al ghul should return since his body was gone in arkham city

"For the first time in Rocksteady's Arkham games, renowned Batman writer Paul Dini will not be involved. The studio is still consulting with DC's chief creative officer Geoff Johns but are relying on their team of in-house writers to craft the story.Game director Sefton Hill is leading the writing team, and he pulled in senior script writer Martin Lancaster (who has worked on the Crysis and Killzone series) to help shape the plot."

This Sefton Hill dude,is nice.

But the thing that they're NOT hiring a top gun to craft the story is a tad worrying.....

And Johns.....Damn,this mutha$%^&# is everywhere.....Arrow series, consultant in Origins,GOTHAM series,i heared he's in the writing team for Bats VS Sups......Holy darn.....

I'm now bummed that it seems like I won't be able to play this game. The processing power and tech involved means they've kept it to purely the next gen consoles and I can't just buy a next gen console to play one game. Plus my back up plan of buying it on PC hasn't worked out because a conversation on here has shown me that even current top of the range gaming laptops won't be enough to run Arkham Knight on so my unspecialised laptop won't do the job either. This sucks to have any chance of Arkham Knight dashed :(

@punyparker: Johns is not on the Batman/Superman writing team. That would have been big news.

I'm glad that they are bringing in original writers. I feel comic writers and video game writers have different strengths and weaknesses. Video game writers tend to think of cool ideas and concepts but can't always execute them properly with comic characters. While on the other hand comic writers are the exact opposite. I think they should have grabbed a good retro Batman writer who could handle a plot like this and make it interesting. Hell they could have consolted the entire writing team for Night of Owls.

He is consulting every WB/DC project. He's the chief creative officer.
Also he's the Executive Producer of the flick....he has a STRONG say on the script....

And yes.We partly agree, but you cast out Paul --fvcking-- Dini......you gotta bring someone of the same calliber.

@punyparker: He is consulted but he didn't help writing. Frank Miller was consulted but he sure as hell didn't help with the writing aspect.

Paul wasn't going to help out with the game anyway, not only had both DC and Rocksteady say he should take work anywhere, but he said he was busy and he wouldn't be free until late 2013. Which is fine by me, he didn't exactly do anything to thrilling with the games besides Joker dying.

Still.....some writing pieces that has been left out will be directed right to him.......like with every Exec who's a writer.

I knew Dini's situation.
Story build up and dialog was excellent. That's what i wanted.Hope the game's well written though.

Any one can build up a story. Every writer has to be able too, that's what 60% of writing is about.

Well, he is a writer. If I were in his position I would be tempted to add some creative input too.

And while I understand being wary about Johns on something Batman-related, we can't forget he's also one of the best villain writers out there.

I was in the same boat. I was originally going to sail the Xbox 360 boat until I was forced to abandoned ship, figuring we had at least another year use out of both the XB 360 and PS3. But with Arkham Knight I've had to move my plans up, though because doesn't come out until October we all still have time to save up, not to mention that seeing as the game comes out right before the Christmas holidays gamers might be able to find some good sales on both next-gen systems.

I will admit though that I originally going to get an Xbox One, but I'm now leaning more towards getting a PS4.

I have to say, I'm really interested in how we are going to be able to use all the quick fire gadgets while gliding. The only two that I really need are batarangs and the bat-claw. Batarangs make the most sense, and the bat-claw because I want to do something like what Bruce did in the Hugo Strange trailer. I also hope that on some gargoyles in the city Batman will stand on them instead of sitting. Like specific gargoyles that are specifically mean for looking over the city. Glad I have a PS4 already, while it upsets me that it still wont be on PS3 and 360, I'm glad that they are pushing it to the limits where only next-gen can run it smoothly. Hopefully they do show some gameplay. I want to see the batmobile in action.
