Round Robin #7 - Sidekicks Swap

As is tradition, the winner of the previous Round Robin gets the honor of choosing another user on the Vine to bring a fresh new idea to the table. My choice was IcarusFlies.

She's such a creative firecracker that I knew she'd come up with an interesting premise.

Her theme of choice was a sidekick/mentor swap

Imagine how they'd look if it had been the sidekick in the main role, or the mentor in the younger role.

For example, what if Batman was sidekick to Robin, or Jubilee is the best at what she does…and what she does isn't very nice (or however the catchphrase goes)

The rules:

• mention what mentor/sidekick combo it is
• you can do the mentor, or sidekick, or both

We'll go with three weeks on the deadline. Be creative & have fun!

yea, if that's your mentor/sidekick combo you can have a jubilicious wolvie or vice versa, just figure how to visually represent it :)

Marvel isn't too big on sidekicks, and I wasn't entirely sure what this contest was all about, so I went with Cap/Barnes. Obviously this has already been done and if I did it wrong I'll gladly do another one after someone explains it to me...Like what constitutes a "sidekick" and some non-DC examples.

@LeeThomasART: yea that'll work if you wanna use it, just hard to see the Bucky in it (although the gun kinda works for that)

basically the idea is swap the mentor and sidekick, so instead of Batman & Robin, it'd be Robin & Batman (Batboy maybe). In that case an older Robin with a more primary character looking costume and/or a younger Batman looking more like the sidekick.

The challenge is to show the difference the character would have being in the other role.

If anyone is struggling, like I was regarding whom to use, just check out the Sidekick concept page for a brief list of characters. I know there are more available from comic books but this is a good start.

and if your still struggling after that list on a combo that's why we went with a mentor definition, so even if it's not like a defined 'sidekick', any mentor relationship would work, eg. Wolverine/Jubilee or anything like that.

@tonis: Thanks. Can we create our own mentor and student character relationship as well or does it have to be something that already exists? . Can we make a character that is a combo of both mentor/hero/student/sidekick?

Not trying to cause any issues here just wanting to help get the possibilities open.

interesting, and yea, why not, if there's a combo you'd like to see or can visualize a creative combination I say go for it. Just explain your mentality and it's all good with me :)

ok I realize that Skeets isn't your 'normal' sidekick, but he certainly has been considered Booster Gold's wingman.

Skeets is a sentient 25th century battle droid built by 'Goldstar Universal Investments' founder Jonathan Carter. Originally he was used for entertainment purposes, were he found great success as 'The Brick Sledge-Hammer' in the 'World Battle Bot Federation'.

Jonathan's son, Michael Carter, was given the responsibility of providing technical support for Skeets and making sure he was ready for battle. Because of his skills with providing Skeets with upgrades and positive feedback that always boosted his spirits, Skeets gave him the nickname 'Kid Booster'.

When his father was mysteriously killed, Michael hacked into the databases of the Legion of Super-Heroes and uploaded it to Skeets memory banks hoping it would help lead them to his father's murder.

With the knowledge and skills of the Legion within him Skeets soon realized that the same evil forces who had killed his creator were now after him and Michael. The hack on the Legion had also not gone undetected and Skeets found himself a fugitive with no alternative but to use their technology of time travel to hide Michael where they might be safe.

So far I like the Robin/Redrobin and Batboy duo's the best. I hope no one thinks me rude for stating this I would like to be the person that picks out what the next challange is, I understand that the rules for this challange dictate that the winner gets to pick some on from the boards to come up with the next challange, and I know I have a pretty good challange in mind. To give you an idea the concept I have is a Build a Team concept (which is as much as I want to divulge at this point). Now I'm not an artist (more of a writer), yet I love all comicbook superheroes and so far have be amazed by the artwork on this site, so that's why I hope you'll consider me for the next challange when it comes up.

Hey dude, I see you're new to the site, so I'll just give you a quick pointer…

If you have individual characters you created that you want drawn, you can always request them in a NEW thread in the Show-Off. Many of the artists here are extremely nice, and will often give it a shot (though proper etiquette dictates that you have to post your own drawing in the thread).

It is considered a bit rude to suggest the next contest in the thread. If you want to be considered, asking (not TELLING) the winner to consider your idea is a bit better.

Are you kidding, your concept is good enough to win, and having such amazing art puts you right up there.

This has been the hardest contest to judge for me, everyone's entries are spectacular INCLUDING yours.

Superman's expression and pose and Krypto's cape are just awesomeness.
