Artist Showcase 2012 - February Submission Thread

It's a new year and a great time to jump in and join the monthly artist showcase. Each month we display art from our comic vine users in various mediums and genres and at the end of the year we look for our artist of the year from the monthly polls.

You can submit one entry per month to any of the following mediums....

MEDIUMS:(pick what you feel your entry fits under)

Best Traditional Drawing (paper/pencil/ink/paint/canvas)

Best Digital (tablet/3d/photo)

Best B&W

Best Color

Web Comic / Strip / Panels / COVERS

For this category you may submit a sample (1 IMAGE) of any Web Comic/Strip/Panel or cover layout that you've produced in 2012. In the case of web comics you should also provide a link to where to view the entire comic.

TIMELINE: It's open for work created from the 1st of the month untill the end of the month. There will be 14 days of polling after and winners of each category will be announced on the 15th.

RULES TO ENTER: It would be chaos without them, so here's the premise.

1) There's no set theme, an artist can post any work they've done within that month but they must choose ONE FOR ANY MEDIUM THEY CHOOSE TO ENTER by the deadline (defaults to their most recent unless specified).

2) For their submission choice they MUST include the following information when posting:

MEDIUM : Traditional / Digital / B&W / Color / Web Comic (required - if you don't specify which medium that it's for, it's not a submission)

REASONS FOR CHOOSING : (not required - but offers insight into the artists creative thought)

SUPPLIES / DESCRIPTION : (not required - but offers insight into the artists creative process)

POLLING: the first 14 days of the next month voters will be able to submit there choices for the following criteria before the winners are announced:

All votes will also apply as points to the 'Artist of the Year' ladder which you can track at THIS THREAD HERE.

Each vote will count as a point for the artist and the one with the highest point count will be considered the overall 'Artist of the Month'. Voters can vote once for all criteria or just the ones that they can come up with a choice. I know there's no glory of picking the next theme but it does offer an artist a chance to focus more on different areas of their work and get a decent idea of what parts of their work people do like.

Here's hoping all you great artists can pluck something out of your monthly pieces to submit :)

Not entirely sure where this belongs to....so I guess traditional is the best thing.

Lemme see what I've got for traditional...

I've been preparing for con season in the spring so I've been drawing a lot of Marvel/DC characters. This is a sheet of sketch cards. Each card is 2.5x3.5" and was colored using Prismacolor markers. I think traditional and color probably makes the most sense for this piece. I like all of them except Wonder Woman, probably. Deadpool is probably my favorite.

For me I have a week to finish up my entries and enter them. I can't wait till the last minute like usual since I am vacating the last week of the month.

Damn we've got some great stuff for February, keep it up everyone.

For once I got my B&W before any of the others. Got a chance to finally work on Jocasta and decided to throw Ultron in there too.

@tonis: I'm running on empty but I'm about to get some java to get some more work done. Then I get the glorious day ahead of me tomorrow (this I'm really joking about) of 2 funerals. So pretty much tomorrow is shot for getting anything done.

Okay, I finished this beast. I think this will go into both black & white and traditional. I had a lot of fun doing this one.

Who can name them all? I'll give you guys a pass on the robot. It's a local convention mascot.

@rocketpig: whoa, wicked killer RP, it's awesome to get to see some of your other work on here. I think that's the first B&W I've got to see of yours, LOVE IT!!! :)

Thanks, man. I haven't had a ton of time to work on other stuff lately but with convention season just around the corner, I really need to bone up on drawing licensed characters. Plus, it's just good practice all-around.

I think this is the fewest entries I have ever done for a Monthly Showcase. Work and vacation isn't going to allow any more this month. Plus my planned B&W took a disintegrating turn on me. So here are my 2 yes 2 entries and everyone can guess what they are !

Well this is for panel entry but its was origianlly advert for London Super Comic Con (IT WAS AWESOME BY THE WAY!) lol

Didn't know much about Spider Jerusalem before working on this but found him to be crazy cool :)

Think my female version of the Phantom Stranger will be my digital entry

and last but not least The Enchantress goes in for my color entry

I probably won't get started on the polls until tomorrow morning.

@SC: oh man are those stunning choices. Those tats are wicked and the lady version of Stranger captures the character perfectly :)

REASONS FOR CHOOSING : One December when I was 11, I went to a friends, house, to play with his pet dog, his mother came out and I was memorized, something about the way her hair dangled like metal reflecting the sun into passer byes eyes, blinding them, really got my imagination going. Then she transformed into a wolf and ate my friends pet. Ever since then I have had a fascination for tattoos. A friend likes Wolves so whaddaya know. 

SUPPLIES / DESCRIPTION : 2B, 4B, and 6B pencils, an eraser and A4 paper.  

    

MEDIUM :  B&W 

REASONS FOR CHOOSING : A request, a female version of the Phantom Stranger.
