This is one of my first sketches after an absence at the drawing board. Had a blood infection from an abscess in my liver that lingered from my surgeries a few months ago and put me back in the hospital. Dealing with pain for months and really strong antibiotics for the past few weeks I haven't been able to concentrate or be creative, feeling dizzy and groggy for what seems forever. The fog is lifting and creativity is emerging again on my part. What a relief!

Started sketching and wanted to contribute a little something. My first rough sketch in a while of Wolverine.

Hope you guys like. More to come in the next few weeks....

...and thanks to Tonis for his kind words on my inks and a page full penciled lines needing some embellishment, here's some quicky inks to go with the pencils...

...Ok one more, Not as rough as Wolvie but still just another practice sketch... : )

Much appreciated, Thanks!

Thanks Bud, gonna be doing a lot of pencil sketching for a while. Need to fine tune my layouts in pencil to get myself ready to show my work around. I am five months behind my planned schedule. Was gonna try and have a portfolio ready for both Marvel and DC for the Dallas Con next weekend. Now I am a bit pressed for time. Unforeseen occurrences can really put a damper on things.

If anyone on the Vine is going to be in Irving at the Dallas Con let me know. I know of at least one other Vine member so far.

I have this bad habit of inking my stuff over extremely rough pencils, so I am going to teach and discipline myself to tighten things up before laying the final blacks on. I have to decide what I prefer. Pencils or Inks if I were working in the field. First choice would be identifying myself through my pencils. Gonna miss inking for a while but I need the discipline!!... Hehehe!

Yeah there's several of you guys that I chat with from time to time and really would like to meet. 8 )

hmm, I'd have a REALLY hard time deciding which I like more between your pencils and inks. I do agree though that the right strategy is identifying yourself through the pencils first and foremost.
I would say however that your ink work is certainly of higher caliber than almost everything I see out there so I don't doubt that skills gonna get noticed as well simply because it stands out :)

awesome sketch! Sorry to hear about your illness. I know how you feel. I just recovered from cancer, but stronger than ever now that I fully recovered. Hopefully you will be too. Just keep up the good work and I live in Toronto Canada. Wish I could go to Dallas Con. Have you worked in the comic industry before your illness?

I still have fine tuning on everything to satisfy myself. If my pencils get me in then maybe I can have them let me ink my stuff. Might be a blast to do!

Thanks, sorry to hear that you had health issues and happy to know that you have overcome them.

Not in the Comic industry even though I had been urged years ago by professionals in the field to get in. At the time I was burned out on comics.
A year or so ago I decided I had to learn patience to sit and draw and make a conscientious effort to not let my abilities die after 16-17 years of not practicing.

Although, I have had my work published  a while back in the 90's.

@DavidR: nice job and as quick as DomDom there whipping that out :)
What I like there is now the face really shows the cool eye highlight/shadow effect your doing. It's that classic lighting that shows like twilight zone and star trek made famous with guys like Sterling and Kirk :)

" I think the fact that you can ink over sketches that rough and still come out with such concise and strategically placed lines is a testament to how talented you are as an inker. : )I really wish I could make it to the Con to meet you guys but I'm over on the East Coast unfortunately.Glad to hear you're feeling better though.  I send you my love. "

Aaaaaw M.S.Feather I feel the love all the way over here. Thank you!

I lived in Florida for ten years, what part of the east coast are you at?

Thanks for the kind hearted compliment. The Wolvie pencils posted on this thread are actually pretty defined for my standards. What I mean by rough is, I flesh out almost all my linework from scratch with inks. I rarely know what will come out, the pencil drawing is usually an ultra basic outline of what the figure looks like similar to a thumbnail sketch if that. From there to save time I add the inks.

Heres an example of my pencils right before I ink them I uploaded for Spawndon a while back. This is what I meant by rough.

Well, then play those bongos!  Sort of like riding a bike.  No matter how long you've not ridden one, once you get back on, you really don't forget how to ride.  Or, in this case, draw.

I'm good now thanks to the Vine and the incentive to draw with the many contests I entered over the past year or so. My reference to being rusty was my absence at the drawing board for over 16 years. I am past that and gaining my perspective in a better direction.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I appreciate the sentiment.

I've had about the same absence so I know how you feel.  I've drawn stuff for kids here and there, but nothing with much meaning behind it.  Some time just freed up so maybe I'll be able to enter some contests now instead of missing deadlines.

Thanks, that little program from Autodesk, SketchBookPro2011, It's very effective and gave me results I was pleased with. The fact that I am not a colorist and rarely do it, I liked the results!    <8 D
