What Level of Art Do you Feel You Are At? Artistic progress Chart
Naaah, look at it as a journey from your mind to the paper via your hand and have fun with it, : )
@DomDom:
From what I have seen lately, you are kicking butt and 4 and 5 are where you are already, with a smidgin of 3 still lingering, but your creativity and tenacity plus speed will get you to 6 way before Bob. ; )
If you feel; the need to hold a pencil or a pen and want to express your inner creativity, don't give up. It really can suck at the beginning because you want things to happen. It does require patience and lot's of practice. Be very observant of the things around you. Life, photos, artwork. Pay attention as to why things look the way they do. It's one big puzzle to unravel on paper.I'm WTF! as in I draw so bad I don't even bother anymore.
I just decided recently I needed to take my art up a notch and did not realize what a huge headache it is to break to the next level. I feel like I am back where I was at the beginning, aaaargggh Frustration!!!
Yes the results are different now from experience but the aggravation of having to make it look right is still the same as when I was drawing for the first time. All I know is I want to be able to draw like the pros but still have to push myself just as hard as before. What's funny is that I hate puzzles and that's what I end up doing every time I pick up a pencil.
Keep at it and you will see things form a little bit at a time but the interest on your part needs to be there. Good luck!
I'm actually good at realism and sketching live people but my animation skills get a rough pass. Isn't art the greatest?
Aaaaah , my dear Feather, that's the artistic rebel in you! You march to your own beat. That's what all the greats do. : )
@spawndon:
I know you can draw, I saw what you did a few months ago. You got side tracked with school and 3D stuff but eventually I hope to see your lineart again. It's showing a lot of promise.
As of now... just practice practice. But I really want to sculpt some more.Good luck on that! You are pretty good at figures and your strong point is definitely your women.
I read an article a while back, that stated that if you are a decent painter or artist in figures, Sculpting is second nature. I tried my hand at it many years ago. If it wasn't so time consuming I would continue to do it.
Below is my second sculpture and first full figure. Sadly I never went back to it but had to prove to myself I could do it.
Aaaah, but you can play an instrument or two and I can't. That makes me happy for you but envious for me.@DavidR: man, I'm so a sculpture lover but had less clue there than even with drawing as a kid. It's a gift to pull anything like that off with 'real' clay, at anytime ;)

hehe, that's why I never got too caught up over what my fingers could do so long as my brain had some other toy to play with :)
I think the true trick for most is really embracing that 'natural' talent cause so much distracts it. Personally I'd love for me that it's something 'visual' but I'd be just as content with other senses taking up my time too.

For me, I learned to play the recorder and not well, how cool if I could get up on stage at a rock concert with my own band and WoW everyone at a Rock concert blowing into one, Nnnooooot! : P Maybe Jethro Tull but not me!
lol, smart move, Tull is about the ONLY ONES who pulled it off and still screamed cool while doing it. XD
this is spot on hahaha
I am at the study/practice..my stuff sucks...study/practice phase
somewhere between 3-4
@DavidR
Thanks for the kind words. I really plan to have a formal study on sculpture next year locally before I go internationally. For the time being, I will be taking up law :-)
By the way, your sculpture looks great! Is it Conan?

for my Art Meter: Its still practice practice practice!
4 1/2 My art is nowhere near professional comic level, but the description of Stage 5 seems more than apt.
Wow! A lawyer who likes, reads and draws comics, how cool is that and a sculptor to boot! Good luck with all of that!
