It's about time for me to share with you yet another in the line of cakes I am making for my elder cousin's children. If you are new to this story, I'll give you the Cliff Notes version. Basically, my cousin's daughter is deathly allergic to peanuts. They discovered this when she was only a few months old. Since most bakeries have nuts in them. They couldn't risk buying many cakes. So, I volunteered to make the cakes for their kids so they can be sure they are safe for their children.
This month it was Ben's turn, and he turned three years-old. Normally, the kids request any theme and I try to make a cake based on it. Jack requested Iron Man this year. It was the theme of his birthday party. This was surprisingly easy to make. I was quite surprised how fast I got this one done. I don't use any special pan or guide. This is all custom made sculpted cake.
Stats
- Devil's Food cake
- Vanilla frosting
- 11in. long x 8.5in. wide
- 2 layers
Once I was finished, I kind of laughed at myself. Thinking about how I am putting so much effort into a cake for a three year old who will have no memory of this. My mother jokes that these kids are going to be spoiled for birthday cakes for the rest of their lives. This is the quality in cakes his three kids have known their whole lives. The funny is that they don't pay for these. I do all this labor for free.
It's not my most symmetrical work, but this was all done within a couple of hours.
If you want to see the last cake I made for Jack. See THIS blog posting. This month is Alli's birthday. I'm waiting to hear what she wants this year. It the past it's been Barbie, Ariel(Little Mermaid), and a pumpkin.
I hope you like the look of this cake, and I'd like to hear your thoughts.
