#1 Posted by M.S. Feather (1514 posts) - - Show Bio

As is tradition, the winner of the previous Round Robin gets the honor of choosing another user on the Vine to bring a fresh new idea to the table.  My choice was Roxanne Starr.

Not only is she an afficionado of art but she herself worked as a graphic designer and professional comic letterer for many years and I think her contributions to the site and comic industry made her an excellent candidate for our contest.

Her theme of choice was Humorous Characters from Independent Publishers.

Oni Press, Dark Horse and Image are indie just to name a few.

The rules:
  • No originals.
  • Remember to identify your characters.
  • The characters you use must have been published on paper.

Since yet another major holiday is coming up I'm going to make the deadline for this one the full three weeks as well.  Have fun!

Deadline is January 4th, 12:00PM Eastern Time.

@M.S. Feather: hahaha, a most excellent choice of choosers :)

I'm gonna have to do some serious thinking on who I'm gonna pick on this bad boy.

#3 Posted by M.S. Feather (1514 posts) - - Show Bio
@tonis: I knew she'd come up with something fun. ^^

Yeah, the possibilities for this one has my mind on overdrive!
#4 Posted by KEROGA (1022 posts) - - Show Bio

Yeah, there are some very famous yet very minimal indie characters that just about anyone can draw. :-)

This one, however...not so famous.

Oh god ! I know who I'm doing !

#10 Posted by Decept-O (7279 posts) - - Show Bio

@Roxanne Starr: This is a good idea by the way, doing versions of indie humorous comic characters. Good choice by you and Feather.

@Decept-O:

Are you going to do your rendition of Mr. Hand? LOL!

Ooooooooooops! I meant Mr. HAT! Slip of the tongue. LMAO!
#12 Posted by Decept-O (7279 posts) - - Show Bio

@Roxanne Starr: Nah but that could be a fun one. I have an idea for this one, a character whose been around for awhile but whose comics I just found a few years ago. Hoping I can deliver on it.

#13 Posted by Roxanne Starr (9093 posts) - - Show Bio
@Decept-O:

BTW (this is to you Decept-o AND everyone else) South Park characters are eligible, since there are South Park GN's.

@Roxanne Starr: Sheesh, I didn't even know there were South Park GN's and the like. That's cool to have that choice as well.

Oh, and Satan Madame October is NOT my entry, since I didn't draw Madame October or create that Satan Mask.

Collages are not permitted in this contest.

Absolutely love this theme. Ive gone with dear ol' Buddy Bradley.

Damn, I love Hate!

#23 Posted by CATPANEXE (9368 posts) - - Show Bio

Neat. Are this sandbox open for anyone to play in? I have a little free time for the holiday and was planning on laying on the floor with a sketchbook for a bit, and I have a strong taste for the oddball Indy characters. Also if so, does the picture have to be limited to one character or can more than one be interacting? Thanks, wassail wassail. (:

Thanks, feebadger! It's great seeing Pee Bagge (that's what his friends call him) represented in this thread!

does drawing mass effect count, cause dark horse made comics for that

#26 Posted by feebadger (1445 posts) - - Show Bio

@Roxanne Starr: Pee Bagge. That's brilliant (though quite unfortunate for him i imagine). A pity there's not more coverage of Hate or other indies on Comic Vine. One of my few gripes about the place. Even the wiki entries for most indie comments are bare to non existent. Will have to do something about that in the new year perhaps.

#27 Posted by Roxanne Starr (9093 posts) - - Show Bio

@Blizaga101:

Sorry, but no.

Mass Effect comes from the world of electronic gaming. It was not a comic book FIRST.

The only characters that can be candidates on this thread are ones who first appeared on PAPER.

Please do that, feebadger. I've written a number of bios for various indie artists, because they are friends of mine and I wanted to give them some publicity on this site. But as far as writing about their WORK...I think that would be best handled by a FAN.

Are you still going to enter this one, tonis? Have you decided on a character yet?

Ok -

The Invisible Man Still Needs to look his Best!

The Invisible Man, though from many different books and stories, primarily Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, published by ABC.

And although he was a total sleaze, I seem to remember him being funny. Also, this situation popped into my head and I thought it perfect! :)

@LeeThomasART:

WHOA!

I know that that digital work is very time-consuming. Thanks for putting so much effort in your entry!

@Hawkeye446:

HAHAHAHA!!! Good work, Hawkeye!

Who knew that one of the most ambitious writers in the GCI stable could draw as well.
#38 Posted by Hawkeye446 (3939 posts) - - Show Bio

@Roxanne Starr: I tried, just for you!

I can't do much, but what I do do, I enjoy.

Also, he didn't have a face, so that made it easier !! :-D

It's a cold, rainy, dreary Christmas morning in Atlanta...but  Velcro was only to happy to brave the inclement weather a few minutes ago.  :D

You're not going to give me even the slightest clue...are you, Pokerface?

I'm thinking that it's not just one character, but a team. Does the team have 6 members?
#44 Posted by payno (990 posts) - - Show Bio

Just did a quick drawing for this one.
It's Robert Crumb's Mr.Natural

#45 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@payno: always an awesome choice with Crumb's work, good one :)

hehe, no, I haven't had to make any mullets, although they were my first consideration :)

If you had, you would have been disqualified.

Mullet Force Six has never appeared in a paper comic book. :p
