OK, here is the deal. IF you have received a PM or have read the details in another post by me, you may know about this new proposed contest. If not here are the basics:

We, as artists, will participate in the "Round Robin" contest, but the deal is, the choice and idea for each contest will be done by someone we as artists choose. When the contest goes to voting, the winner will select a Viner, and ask him or her to decide what the next contest will be. The usual rules for each contest will apply. Minimum 1 week to maximum 3 week deadline. Also, try to avoid using any past ideas for past contests. It is OK to use an Amalgam idea if you'd like, but don't use someone else's Amalgam idea that already appeared. Just check the past threads for help. Again, any idea within reason.

The Viner can suggest anything, within reason. It is good not to ask for a couple of pages, nor to have something too complicated. The winning artist will help the Viner set up the next Round Robin contest thread.

When an artist wins a round of the Round Robin Contest, notify your Comic Viner of choice and give him or her 3-5 days to reply and start the next contest theme. If the Viner you choose doesn't reply within that time frame, then start the next contest theme yourself.

Just to add, the name of Round Robin was suggested by artist and Viner Foldingstar, so thanks to him for that great name!

We need more Viners to not only vote but join in the Artist Forum. I have noticed primarily only artists vote or comment in the threads, with a minimum of Viners who aren't artists joining in. This Forum is not exclusive to artists. It is open to everyone. ( although some things get posted which should not)

That said, Comic Viner Turoksonofstone was selected for this first installment of Round Robin. His idea? To take any Public Domain character, and draw our version of him, her, or it. This encompasses a wide array of characters, this should be a great one.

Any medium accepted

Deadline is August 28th, 2011 @ 9:00 PM Central Standard Time USA.

I know there will be suggestions for ideas by users, but please, don't post them. Simply wait and you may get a chance at this. Let the artists create their work, vote when this goes to the Voting Thread, and keep watching, you may get a crack to have your idea turned into a contest!

not sure what's the funny part there but when Decept-O mentioned that Turok might be choosing the first theme I was hoping he'd choose something like this, he knows his classic PD characters well and there's a lot of really cool ones that would make great art subjects.

There was a list I saw once that I think he'd put together of all the PD characters, anyone know where that is and could we get a link or copy of that into the main post?

That would be a most excellent reference :)

#9 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@spiderbat87: good man, thanks :)

#10 Posted by Raven0207 (1303 posts) - - Show Bio

This is a great and interesting choice. My buddy Johnny is coming over tomorrow so I might try to get him to give this a try since he is on here.

#11 Posted by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

@KEROGA: No. The name of the contest is "Round Robin". As in taking turns, a "round robin". However, DO use a Public Domain character and draw your rendition of him or her. @tonis: Is the link not showing up in my post here? It is on my end Shoot.

#12 Posted by Raven0207 (1303 posts) - - Show Bio

1000's of characters to choose from !!!!!!! Who do I choose ???????????

#13 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@Decept-O: working here now, didn't see it earlier. My monitors starting to crap out so it's getting tougher and tougher to see the links on this screen.

Either that or I'm just going blind, I'm gonna blame it on the monitor :)

#14 Posted by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

@Raven0207: Ha! That's the fun part. I think Turok came up with a great idea here. I haven't thought of one specific one yet, either. Looking forward to what you will do and hope your buddy submits something as well! @tonis: Well, I did write A LOT of info so it probably got lost in all the text. You're not going blind. If you are, I imagine its not from artwork. Bwa Ha Haa!

Countess Siroon (Fawcett Comics, 1953)

She is the guardian of the doorway to the Beyond and one of Dr. Death's loyal servant.
She appears to be a beautiful woman but is actually a bloodthristy demon.

My modern take of the character.

The Doorway of the Beyond is actually hidden in the shadows of her strikingly beautiful black hair which she can also use to protect herself and sometimes, unleash demons within the shadows of her hair enough to drag her enemies within the dimension of the Beyond or be slaughtered. But no demon can go beyond the shadow of her hair unless she wills it and only during nighttime as the demons will die immediately in broad daylight.
The power of the Beyond gives her immortality, youth and strong resistance to any magical and telepathic manipulations. She mastered powerful spells enough to level cities.  Her constant quest is to find her lost beloved, Dr. Death but unknown to her was that Dr. Death was turned to an ordinary human by God and had fallen in-love with a mortal woman whom he had married and had a son.

@IcePrince_X: That is an absolutely incredible rendition of Countess Siroon. I love the back story you created, and the artwork is stunningly beautiful. Man, you knocked this out out of the park quick!

#20 Posted by ReVamp (22863 posts) - - Show Bio
@tonis: What was funny was how obvious the suggested theme was when mentioned who chose it. At least I found it funny :P
#21 Posted by ReVamp (22863 posts) - - Show Bio
@IcePrince_X: Absolutely amazing.
#22 Posted by IcePrince_X (4849 posts) - - Show Bio

Thanks for appreciating guys!

also thanks for the suggested art rendition... I just read around 25 characters of the golden age and most of them have real counterpart now-adays... very uncanny.

#23 Posted by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

@IcePrince_X: No problem, that is great work. You are absolutely right. A good majority of current characters are loosely based on plenty of Golden Age and Public Domain characters. Not that I am complaining, because if its in the public domain, its fair game.

#24 Posted by EGoD (1512 posts) - - Show Bio

This should be interesting.  I take it that ReVamp knows more about Turoksonofstone than the rest of us do, perhaps he knew Turok would pick the PD characters.
#25 Posted by Raven0207 (1303 posts) - - Show Bio
@IcePrince_X: gorgeous !
#26 Posted by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

@EGoD: Hoping you submit an entry!

@IcePrince_X:  Dammmm!!! How long would it take to wash that hair?!?! lol... Great picture!!!
#28 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

@IcePrince_X: whoa dude, that is one of the coolest chicks you've done yet, your hair skills are as cool as your smoke skills :)

hehe, well I had a sneaky suspicion too, but I wanted it to be PD characters so it worked out perfectly :)

#29 Posted by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

@tonis: There are plenty to choose from that's certain. Hoping to see what you whip up.

#30 Posted by MarvelJackAss433 (12238 posts) - - Show Bio
@Decept-O: Participating, just gonna take one random character and draw him LOL
#31 Posted by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

@MarvelJackAss433: Cool. From the Public Domain character list, right? That is what Turoksonofstone is asking. There are A LOT to choose from. :)

#32 Posted by M.S. Feather (1514 posts) - - Show Bio
@IcePrince_X: Beautiful!  I love the story that came along with her too.  When I read it I couldn't help but think of Bayonetta, one of my favorite heroines. :D
#33 Posted by Raven0207 (1303 posts) - - Show Bio

My buddy spent all day yesterday working on his entry and it rocks ! I'll scan it so he can put it up later this week ! Now I have to get started on mine !

#34 Posted by IcePrince_X (4849 posts) - - Show Bio

@M.S. Feather
Thanks! I personally don't know Bayonetta other than she is a known game character but I saw one statue kit of hers and WOW! she a major rocking character with heels made of gun... who can't fall in love with that?

I hope you can grace this contest too, you have some  major creative skills that Golden Age characters can use to be more updated.

@gunjin: The idea is Turoksonofstone's in term of the contest content. He is the "big dog". Whether he likes that term or not is up to him. He is the big Nosferatu! Thanks and I appreciate the job you did. That is one heck of a twist on The Voice. Very interesting concept indeed. Original. Great work!

@karbacca: This is stunning. I love the take on Bulletman you did here. Dang, that is a great take on the character. Nice work man!

#43 Posted by SteveRodgers (728 posts) - - Show Bio

OK, here is Mighty Man

#44 Posted by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

@SteveRodgers: Right on. Glad you joined in with your work! Nice choice.

#45 Posted by Aronmorales (9434 posts) - - Show Bio

This is interesting, lemme go grab my art pad.

#46 Edited by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

I chose to use the original Public Domain Golden Age character The Clock. Listed as being the first masked comic strip adventurer. Here's the link: The Clock

I also added some public domain clip art of clock faces as the background.

Now, here's my version. A time traveling gynoid or "female" android.

#47 Posted by SteveRodgers (728 posts) - - Show Bio

nice, i love the clock... and robots, good combination.

Who is the American themed hero on the top? I want to redesign him, but I can't find his page
#49 Edited by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

@SteveRodgers: Thanks, glad you like it. @Gambit1024: Fighting Yank or Commando Yank.or even Fighting American. Take your pick.

#50 Posted by Gambit1024 (9890 posts) - - Show Bio

Well, I couldn't find any other picture of this dude on the web, so I'm gonna go with Commando Yank:
