MONTHLY TALENT PAGEANT - February 2011
LOL, I remember the latex avenger, great stuff. This would have made a great entry into the sidekick contest Payno did this month.
Like the style a lot, bright and 'poppy' kind of feel. On the 99.5% and character concept, I say pure comedic gold and certainly great candidate on most original :)
Thanks for the entry Dan, and being proactive on the fuzz out on anything considered a potential censors issue. Rather not have to push those guys if we can avoid it.
Given the change I just made in medium choices, what's your choice? Color is a given, but not knowing any other details I'd be guessing on traditionally drawn vs digital. Looks like coloring was digital correct?
"
Loki
"
I'd just like to point out that this picture of Loki was created by an artist called Glen Angus (who unfortunately passed away in 2007).
People have been wrongly praising cloverfield for creating this piece of artwork.
I don't know if cloverfield was aware, but this thread was for artists here on comicvine to show their own original art work and not for posting the art of others.
Just wanted to make this clear.
"It's hard not to feel that comedy, it literally COVERS you :)@tonis: I definitely got a good one, tonis. She's a real gem.
"
As far as the medium: Non Print Purple Pencil for the sketch, Black Marker, colors in Photoshop.
thanks for the kind words and for feeling the comedy.
DP
So it's really a hybrid of traditional and digital, which is what I figured. You're welcome to submit it as both, or either if you have anything else you'd like to use for those two mediums.

" @tonis: Nice so Ill enter in my Marek in traditional, and my Dare Devil/Hell boy in BW. "great :)
It does, doesn't it?
Yeah, first time ever drawing an Apatosaurus wielding a 2x4 breaking rocks.
" @tonis: Thanks, I spent hours colouring that thing. I actually didn't pay much attention to the entry requirements to originally only allow 1 entrant per artist, so my bad on that but hey it turned out to be a good thing :D "yea it did, I started thinking it'd be cool to be able to see the artists who multi-medium it, which is becoming many these days.

" @Aronmorales: NIce except that it looks like the dino is getting hit in the face haha "I love that he found the 'EZ' button, that's a good dino :)
@Aronmorales: thanks for moving them over to thread. So what details can you give me on what's traditional, digital, and which of them for the B&W category?
yup but its easily the best Apatosaurus wielding a 2x4 breaking rocks that ive ever seen haha
ok, I've started rounding up the entries and sorting things out and it actually went a lot easier than I expected for the most part.
You still have until the end of the month if you change your mind or choose to add a new piece to a medium. Just to remind anyone who might have missed it, yesterday I decided to change the rule on one submission to one submission PER MEDIUM. So if you have something else you want to add to something different you're welcome to.
Here are all the entries so far in alphabetical order:
If you see a (?) next to your name that means I need some info or I'm gonna have to guess on it.
Thanks all for an incredible turnout, Vine should be proud of all the talent on here.

" @tonis: Your name's a bit "hidden" in there don't you think? You are one of the top-tier artists here and yet unconsciously too humble... Kudos mate! "lol, thanks, didn't even notice that, wasn't too worried about notifying myself but I'll make sure to do so once I get back :)
this is what happens after too many hours.
@tonis:
Oh, right, I figured on Paragon Avenger being in the B&W catergory, along with Apatosaurus.
Everything else I guess would be traditional.
" I decided to do something new for this. Standard pencil drawing hand coloured as usual with coloured pencils and markers. I really couldn't clean up the background of the paper without distorting the edges of my image.HOT!"
Man, I love the idea for this. I have been and still am so busy with College, Work, and my Girlfriend. That I have such a hard time meeting the Deadlines for the Main Contests here on the vine. This will be great for me. Too bad i'm too late for this one, and the fact that i didn't produce much art this month. But i will for sure be in the next one in several areas of this contest. most likely.
Brilliant my good friend brilliant.

I think this one will work well with you also, you're good at targeting something in a lot of ways, so I could see you across all mediums going nuts.
Good choices. He was definitely one of your best 'classic' feeling renditions this month. I can use one for the B&W category, and one for the traditional. Which ever you like for either.
" @Caligula: lol, I was just thinking of what to suggest that I'd seen and I literally thought of the aquaman the same time as I was reloading the page :) Good choices. Terra for B$W
and Aquaman for Traditional.

i chose the eggshell white lantern because it was my first sketch posted on the site
i spelled white wrong and it was in sharpie that's why there is a black bar.
My first fully digitally rendered practice piece. Wanted to see if I could replicate my pen and ink style on a tablet. Although I feel connected to my pencil and inking supplies, I liked the results and looking forward to doing more with a digital medium.
For a while I just did not like the outcome that I got with a tablet but I changed my approach and direction in the way I drew with it and got results that I was happy with.
Medium. Digital/ Wacom Intous4/Sketchbookpro2011
Here's my latest Batman. Finished last Friday. 100% digital.
Looking for a job in the comic biz but as you can imagine it's tough to break into.
Cheers!
I know it's an odd combo but I drew this recently (DC) Batman/Venom (Marvel).
I figured I'd add him for B&W if that's ok?
What I used:
Pencil, Black Markers, Darker Pencils.
Why I picked this:
I got to test my lighting skills and shadowing.
And because i liked the mixture of cute meets scary.
"brilliant. I am using this as my Desktop Background right now.

Here is my entry. Digital coloring, hand inked. Jubilee vs Xarus. Started the drawing back in mid January, finished it about 10 minutes ago.

Entering this in traditional, digital and color
@DavidR: ahh, great choice, a fine example of how good tablet work can look when you work it.
@jamesdilworthartwork: awesome to get a sample of your work in here. Thats a 100% digital? WOW!
@DomDom: great choice for the B&W, and actually I really like the combo choice. They'd make for one hell of a character.
@Basement_Studios: nice, thanks for posting over to the thread. You can use this one for both the traditional and the B&W, would you like to use the color one in the color category? You're welcome to.
@Kamitosis: I said it before, but worth saying again. Stunning example of your work. Most impressive I've seen yet of yours :)

Thank you so much. This one only took me about 11 hours. Most of it was spent on making the background pretty. lol I was trying to make it look like the mansion that Jubilee was sired in.
" @DavidR: I am consistently humbled by your art sir. makes my best attempts look like the finger paintings of Michael J. Fox... "Aaawww man thanks! Thought I would tell you that your inking has a more steady flow and feel to it as of the last few months and I always like the experiments you try with ur figures and camera angles!

Ok so its been a while since i used photoshop but i'm submitting this one for the digital and colour catagories :)
" @kiss_lamia: hehe, I knew getting photoshop into your hands was gonna make for some sweet pixel candy. Good job :) "With more practice and experimentation i should be able to make future attempts better, but its been nearly a year since i used it but for now its better than nothing, so thankies again for getting photoshop into my hands. ROFL :P
this piece is from my web comic on my site :
http://thevalkyirequartet.com/
My Reason for choosing this :
1.] I want to try something different with my art style and do something kinda retro-40s,50s early 60s film noir with Grey scale in place of standard colors .
2.] minimalism and simplicity are the two major themes of this : with style not being to much of a big focus over mood .
3.] the center image takes up the right amount space without taking away from the intended mood of the piece .
4.] black and white ( with grey scale is always in season ) also makes a great bookend too .
5.] this is one of my creator-own characters from my web comic and her origin is yet to be revealed (for anyone reading it that is )
supplies : wacom tablet , carel painters essentials 4
It is different to your other works too, shows good diversity in the skill set.
Always a fan of the yet to be revealed origin characters too :)
So I can put this under 'traditional' for being drawn, 'digital' for being worked on through a computer, and B&W cause that's pretty straight forward.
Nice work J1ml33
