Just finished the line work for this one. I plan to give her darker color tights instead of her usual fishnets...I hate drawing fishnets. Plus I think a thick, dark legging kind of thing would be more suited. I gave her thicker boots and the "B" on the jacket could be for either Black Canary or Birds of Prey. Her design was always so simple it was hard to do much with her and not go too crazy. I did have fun with her makeup.
I invisioned her being raised in a government lab as some kind of living weapon. She'd be part of a special program designed by an organization following in the steps of CADMUS. She'd be one of many until somebody behind the scenes cuts her strings.

BLACK CANARY
Name: Scarlet Harper
Hair color: Copper red.
Eye color: Pale Green.
Scars: Scars all around her mouth and lower face.
Age: Late 20's/early 30's?
Gear: Face mask (which she needs in order to: breath, speak, sonic scream.)
mini bio(well not so "mini"):
Scarlet Harper had been raised into a normal family (originating back to Roy Harper, being her father).
Her somewhat normal life is turned upside down when at age 16, hunting down her family history and conections.
After paying a visit to her "really elder" grandfather, she steps into the crossfire of an "elder" titans leage, secret meeting in her newly found granfather's basement.
She over hears the "still living" members of the old titans team discussing an assult on the new "Black Canary" said to have been going around killing off all ties to the retired or now solo Justice League members (whom could still be living in this era- like non ageing Superman). Scarlet is instantly engrossed to the discussion, untill the house is hit with a sonic scream! Before Scarlet could even meet her unknown grandfather, or figure out what had even just happened...she found an explosion hitting her from an exploding arrow, shot at her by Roy in mistaking her for the Black Canary intruder! Scarlet sustained massive injurys to her lower face, loosing her voice and ability to breath without machines assistance. Scarlet was stollen away by the rogue Black Canary descendant and saved by the villainess. Scarlet is given a mouth peice to breathe, speak, and use for sonic screams, by the woman, claiming her as her apprentice/hostage. Scarlet over a long absence from home, forgets her family and the life she once knew as weakness and finally after years of hard training and brainwashing becomes the next Black Canary-- taking the now elder daughter of Canarys place. Scarlet goes on to become the most sly villainess of 2099 and is constanting interfearing with Leage and Titan issues, with the guidance of her twisted mentor.
Hope ya like her, i know the bios pretty sad/lame but i just went with the flow.

@karbacca: fishnets are a pain no matter what medium you do them in, I agree. Very nice design, that jacket totally rocks. Nice work with the makeup, and nice touch with the ear piercing like that :)
@ARMIV: wow!, that's some great ideas you put in there, and the color piece looks fantastic. Some of the strongest designing skills I've seen you display yet on a character. Great work.

Glad you enter as many as you can, your takes are always a treat, as well as guessing how long between the initial post and you getting yours done. (we should have betting pools)

I'm rather proud of this one ... I tried a few new things technique wise and had a lot of fun ... hope ya'll like it!
EDIT: I'm adding this information from a later post so it's all in one place.
I took inspiration from High Fashion, Lady GaGa, TRON, Blade Runner and Aeon Flux. I tried to make the character a little more vicious feeling, but also reflect a more fragile birdlike quality. It makes her very raptor-like which I thought went well with the "Birds of Prey" angle for the Black Canary character. I tried to break the current Black Canary's costume down to its main parts and them recombine those elements. So jumbled up a leather jacket, fishnets, and a corset with some modern flashes.
I envision her origin as something similar to the current Black Canary. Her father was the last person to carry the Black Canary mantle. She was raised amongst the 2099-era Justice League and has received some form of training from almost every member. Where things differ are that I see a bit or rebellion in her. Originally she didn't want to be a hero. She struck of on her own as a model and party girl. Her father's death however brought her some clarity and returned her to the Justice League. She is the team's field leader and takes her job seriously. However, when the stress gets to her and she does feel the need to blow off a little steam, she calls up a friend of hers from her party girl days, The Green Arrow of 2099, and they make some noise around town.

I would tend to agree with you but if I hadn't seen earlier works by him it would need more contrast with blacks. This is probably where his color skills will take over, : )
If you are familiar with my work you would know I am on the other end of the line spectrum. For me it's all about manipulating thick and thin. Somehow his art works for me in it's simplicity. Even with all the detail he adds. I think it's because he has good command of his figures and poses. I also feel his piece is still a work in progress and willing to give him an opportunity to add flair with his talent for color. But I do see your point.
@ARMIV: yup, mine oi, don't say that. I like what you did, it's a neat design, and graphics remind me of myself a couple years back :) Anyways, I think these contests are more about exchanging ideas and inspiration than actual winning
@karbacca:@DavidR: The inking style i used is what i learn my self. I never had any training on any style of color or drawing and I am still learning how to color most things like a cityscape. I find davidr inking style really nice but have no clue my self how to do it the right way.

Here what I have for my Coloring. I Finished coloring Black Canary and the cityscape is a work in progress any pointers would be great. ^_^
