Cyclops vs. Deadshot (Three-Page Fights)

The Shark has returned with his third Three-Page Fight: featuring Cyclops going up against Deadshot in a forest!

For those unfamiliar with the concept; the idea is to draw a three-page comic-book fight with zero dialogue, using visual storytelling alone. I use it as practice for improving both my artistic talents and sequential narrative skills.The aim that I had with drawing this battle was to experiment and push my skills to their limits. For this fight, I tried to draw poses and angles that I'd never done before. I strove to make the fight as dynamic as possible, with every panel trying something new.

The results are...mixed, I feel. There are some panels that I'm really happy about, but some that I felt turned out somewhat mediocre. Regardless, here is the entire Three-Page fight for your enjoyment, and as always, comments and criticisms are highly welcomed:

Pretty great!! I noticed some minor things on page 2 but thats it! On the first panel of page 2 i think deadshot's back could have more of a curve to it and on the last panel of page 2 his proportions seem to be a little of, but it is much better than I could do!

Massive mismatch Cyclops stom...

Oh wait this is an art show off piece :P A really excellent job mate, your panelling is laid out even better than before. Aside from page 1, in the panel where Deadshot is shooting at Cyclops, that seems a bit incorrectly proportioned in relation to his clenched fists for shooting and where the bullets are. But honestly that's the only complaint I can see, the rest of the pages are really good mate, especially page 3!

O.O How long did that take to draw?

I got the first page done in a day, and I think the second one took me a good week (the panels here were tricky). The third one kept getting delayed for weeks because of RL stuff, I think I stopped work on it for like just under a month.

@veshark: Wow, I'm impressed, I need to get back at drawing ASAP. Did you teach yourself? Or did you follow classes/learned it from a guide on the internet/ a book/ etc?

@scorpion2501 Yeah, I'm self-taught, I've never been to classes before. Mostly I just study the pencil-work of professionals and then try to emulate their strengths in my own works. Thanks for commenting!

Thanks, bud. Mm, mostly I look at how other artists do it, and then I practice it over and over again to give it my own distinctive style. You can try looking at artists like Bryan Hitch or Mike Deodato Jr - artists who emphasize a lot on highlighting muscular form.

When I was in art school the hopeful comic book artists used to actually use action figures and a desk lamp or some other direct light. I don't think that is very effective though due to the characters in the book being in different environments that would cast different shadows, like, the woods for instance. I just think instinct works the best

Everyone has their own methods, as long as you find one you're comfortable with, it's all good. I think a mix of instinct and reference can both be beneficial to your art. Instinct gives you more dynamic and original artwork, but reference helps keep it grounded and believable.

Well this is interesting...I really do like your style and you should color those...it will look outstanding...good job. One question. Are you planning to work in the comic industry? Or you are currently working already. If not...I'm sure I'll see you there...keep it up.
