" @Om1kron: yeah i guess so, but hey its a bunch of superheros, if it was supposed to make sense to us mere mortals, they wouldn't be superheros now... would they?? "And they wouldn't wear spandex lol.
Costume Contest #32 - Aquaman
wow, knowing that's colored by hand moves it to a level of 'special' in interpretation. Fantastic job in tonal shading and huge props for patience.@tonis:
Colouring is the one thing that takes me the longest and least favourite since I do it all by hand, thanks :)
What kind of pencils/pens are you using to accomplish that kind of coloring?
" @deadpool1109 said:Or there underwear outside... :P" @Om1kron: yeah i guess so, but hey its a bunch of superheros, if it was supposed to make sense to us mere mortals, they wouldn't be superheros now... would they?? "And they wouldn't wear spandex lol. "
" @tonis: just blendable coloure pencils and paintbrush markers as a base mostly. I sometimes use wax pencils and occassionally use these sketching crayons but those things are like chalk and incredibly messy for a left hander. "I know all about the mess we left handers make :)
I like the look the approach makes, and can only begin to imagine the time & effort it takes.
The first thing I thought when I decided to make something for this was 'How do you make Aquaman look cool'?
Om1kron kind of echoed my sentiments and what I decided going into this was that I wasn't going to try giving him metal-wear and other things that didn't make sense in the water. A body suit seemed sufficient enough for a costume. That was the easy part.
Water is a bitch when you want to reflect/diffuse it, whether you draw or render it. To top that off I really wanted to portray the sea creatures as the 'utility belt'. What I ended up for a final required ever ounce of my computers power. To make a test scene took on average 30 minutes, the final 3 renders took over 6 hours each to generate. In the end, I was happy with the results and it's a first for me in that 99.9% of the image and effects was 3d designed and the only thing I did with photoshop was add the cover overlay and a few splashes of water to bouncing objects.
The concept I grabbed inspiration from was a Superman mini-series done back in 1985 call 'The Secret Years' where they introduced new stories about the time between him being a kid and becoming a man. Here's Arthur at the moments between prince and king, presidential at best.
He does have an entourage of sharks with a secret service of orcas and a dolphin sidekick. They're considering running in 2012 as the 'Sea Party' just to keep things interesting for us land dwellers.
Watch out for Mera Palin :)
" I like the hair, reminds me of mitsurugi from soul caliber. "yea, I never liked his original hair and didn't want to go full blown king with the concept so I figured at this point in his life rastafarianish with a ponytail and light goatee seemed fit for the water :)
Hey, guys, there've been a lot of great entries so far. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, Tonis, but it seems you got it knocked out pretty spectacularly. I've been busy with school and real life and stuff and I don't even think I'm going to be able to get mine done tonight. Does anybody care if I push the deadline a few hours, say, tomorrow morning?
Some of y'all should consider sending in yr Aquamans (Aquamen?) to P:R. I might finish mine and send it in. Or do a whole new one.
